Forensic Testing of Carcano Rifle

A gunsmith I know has been asked to help some researchers looking in to the ballistic anomalies of the Kennedy assassination.

He has the Carcano rifle and scope.

For shooting he needs a few rounds of military surplus 6.5mm 160gr ammo.

For the ballistic testing he can fake the round using down-loaded 6.5x55 with 160gr FMJ RN bullets. I am supply that.

Can any of you donate some Carcano ammo?

Do you have any 160 gr bullets in .267 (.267")? They don't seem to be made any more.

We have some of the Hornady Carcano 160s, but they are softpoint. May have a lead on some FMJ.

The SP would work fine for the accuracy testing. For the impact testing we need FMJ. I have some .264 I can down load to Caracano velocity in a Swede or Creed. But some 268 FMJ would be better.

I suppose the real trick to swaging the next larger size to .267 would be the adventure of first procuring a die that size.

Lee has a lot of sizing dies available.

I use them from time to time to downsize .355 147grs Campro copper plated bullets to .323, to load in 8mm Mauser.

It takes a lot of force, therefore I use a vise.

The copper plating never separated.
