I bet this question has been asked a number of times, but asking anyway. lol

I had the chance to meet PP briefly at a fundraising dinner about a year and a half ago, would have loved to have more than a few seconds but he draws crowds like a rock star and it was a bit chaotic. Anyhow, his speech gave allot of hope to the people in that room (all gun people) and it got me thinking allot about past decisions/future plans, etc. Now, he hasn't gotten the job yet and even if he does, I can't imagine the gun file will be his top priority. Trudeau is busy trying to bury this country in debt to buy himself some popularity, PP will have his work cut out on all kinds of things. What I'm hoping to do here is get a sense of how all of you think this is going to go? I'm contemplating getting my restricted in hopes the handgun ban will be reversed, having it ready/in place for when that happens.

The course and $ for it are not a big deal, and who doesn't like guns...so really, I have my answer on the "should I?" re: the course. Guess it's more a question about whether or not you guys/gals actually see this happening, and, if you have any sense of how the handgun market might look if it does? Suppliers won't want to buy inventory until that's law, then the lag to get it. I imagine it'll mostly be a used-market thing at first...

While we're on the subject, we need to get on PP re: sound moderators. Weren't the deer-cullers on Sidney Island allowed to use them along with 30 round mags?

Yes, this question has been asked many times here and the consensus seems to be "Go For It!"
If the decision gets reversed, you're good to go on day one instead of waiting on a license to show up.
If the decision DOESN'T get reversed, there are still Restricted rifles you may want to purchase such as the M1 Carbine etc.

As stated above there are still a limited number of restricted rifles available.
The law also allows for borrowing restricted pistols, although I have heard about some CFOs refusing ATTs for pistol borrowing.
From a political standpoint reversing the pistol freeze will be more difficult because that was passed through proper legislation but the OIC ban can be reversed by simple decree.

Also...
If the ban is lifted, within a week every RPAL course in the country will be booked solid for the next two years. And after that, the deluge of applications to the CFO will probably crash the system for months. Remember the backlog and wait times before the hammer fell?

Definitely go get your Restricted - it opens up more options for you immediately in terms of Restricted Rifles and PCCs, with the potential for future handgun sales. I do believe PP when he states unequivocally that he will undo the 2020 OIC, Repeal C21 and the Handgun "Freeze", and adopt the Simplified Classification System. I am optimistic that with the last item, we will once again see FN FALs, Steyr AUGs and HK-91s freed from their OIC 12(X) prisons and active on the ranges. YMMV, but there is absolutely no reason not to get your Restricted license now, while you still can. Don't wait for the rush that will occur when the promises become reality....

I don't know if restoring sanity to Canadian firearms laws and regulations is part of the Conservative "platform" - but Pierre Poilievre has stated on numerous occasions, that this is what he'll do. I believe him and trust that he'll do what he says he'll do. I'm counting on it - I have in excess of $50 G's worth of "restricteds", that Trudoofus has reduced to their value in scrap metal.
As was mentioned, when our rights are restored, there's going to be great long line-ups of people, jumping on board, to exercise their newly restored freedoms - so get yours now, during the "lull".
Really no downside, other than the few hundred dollars and a weekend of your time, it'll cost you to get your RPAL.

Buy restricted rifles and convert them to NR while you wait for handguns to come back, there are some guns out there you cannot get without restricted endorsement. VZ61 Scorpion might be interesting to you even in restricted form.

Do it. ASAP. The more firearms owners we have, the more it upsets the LIEberals.

If you are in SW Ontario, get in touch with Gary Jewell. He is one of the best instructors out there, and has run THOUSANDS of people though the restricted/non-restricted/hunter safety courses. A true champion of firearms and hunting.

He runs his course on Sundays out of the Delhi Polish Hall. Call him at 519-582-0238

Never going to happen. Poilievre has very little to gain but a lot to lose by touching the handgun ban. Will conservative not vote for Pierre, or another conservative leader, should things stay the same? But how much of the middle will he lose if he does? Guns, especially handguns and "AR's", aren't a political "winner" topic/position in Canada.

Someone should ask him for a yes or no answer on if he will reverse the handgun ban. I don't need links to some non committal interview which was posted in response to my position last time I stated it. I just want a yes or no from him, simple, but that too will never happen. He's just a slippery as all the other politicians, they're all worthless.

Gun right are not an election winning policy in Canada. It's completely understandable that gun owners, myself included, want to hear that he (PP) will reverse the handgun ban. CBC wants to hear that too, just for the "Conservatives put guns back on the streets" headline. Canada should have got rid of Trudeau last election, except that they had second thoughts. The last thing the CPC needs to do is give moron Canadian voters second thoughts, because remember, Canucks re-elected good ol' Blackface not once, but twice.

Sure, but I suggest that it's not only being done to avoid harmful headlines before an election. Nothing will ever be done, pre or post election. The laws regarding handguns and "AR's" will never be rolled back. Sadly, we as a community will only continue to lose ground until they're all gone.

Why is this even a question, OP?

Think of it this way: a restricted makes you a SAFER citizen - trained, vetted, and continuously screened via national crime computer. Licensed RPAL holders hold much more 'social' credit than any other citizen of this country!
