Joe Salter NO LONGER SHIPPING CTG GUNS TO CANADA.. UPDATED!!!

It is to my great disapointment that I read on Joe Salter's web site that they will NO LONGER ship Ctg guns ( even Antiques) to Canada. From now on if anyone wanna buy an Antique ctg revolver from them , The assistance of a firearms exporter will be needed !

Ya i brought this up Months ago here on a thread.
I got into a good Arguement with Joes Lacky thats running the place when i tryed to buy a Antique Revolver from them.

He told me it was Because some Canadian bought a Remington Deringer DB 41 RF and Canada Customs Siezed it.
Cost the Canadian Buyer $1500 for a Lawyer to Fight Canada Customs to WIN and get the Gun as it was Antique but Customs said it wasnt.
The whole thing sounded like B.S to me!
Anyway i guess Salters didnt like that whole nightmare so are Refuseing to sell to US unless its Flintlock Pistols :rolleyes:

He still comes up to Canada and buys as many antiques as he can carry back to the USA tho!

Theres plenty of Great US people and Dealers that are Not Frightened to ship up here so just shop where your Appreciated ;)
 
Earlier this week I had contacted him regarding an 1895 dated 8mm Mle. 1892 revolver and was told it was a restricted weapon.

Knew right there and then I knew I was on a fool's errand.
 
If you live near the border have the item shipped to the UPS Store in a U.S. border town near you. UPS has a special recieving service that you pay $10 for when you pick the item up. Then go through the border with your CFC or Registry paperwork showing it is antique and pay PST, GST on it.
I do it for items that US companies only ship to the lower 48 states. Fellow I work with gets car parts sent there for the car he is restoring. We are 3 hours from the border.
This may be a solution
 
I have done this for a very large and heavy item that would have been too expensive otherwise. Picked it up at the Buffalo UPS store, stopped at some gun shops for some odds and ends, came back to Canada.
 
I've purchased various old Winchesters and antique sixguns from the US, including Joe Salter. For the antiques, I just have them shipped to a post office just across the border where I personally pick them up, then clear them through Canada Customs with one of those handy antique letters from CFC. For the old Winnies that aren't antique, I have them shipped to Leroy's in Montana who do the necessary paperwork. They then ship them to the same local where I pick up the antiques and I clear them through Customs myself.
 
I've not sold any guns to Joe, but I do know that they do not give near what the gun is worth to collectors, so anyone who sells to him is taking a substantial loss. On the other hand, I did get a nice Winchester Model 53 from him that was worth more than what I paid him for it. Joe Salter is a decent place to buy for some guns, but a bad place to sell to. It's hard to have it both ways.
 
People can always try John Denner in Canada rather than sell to Joe Salters.
I have only bought a Antique Revolver from John one time but he was great to deal with.

As far as selling Collections ALL dealers are gona pay alot less than the guns are worth thats just par for the course, there Dealers.

If a person has to sell to a dealer Better to sell to a Canadian Dealer and keep the Guns in Canada tho i figger!
 
Is this fellow the same Joseph Salter that used to be in NB or NS?? I ordered a "mint" Swede M42B from him some years back. I already had a nice one, but thought I'd upgrade. I sold my original one to a good friend. When the Swede arrived in the mail, I was amazed at how it had deteriorated just from shipping. If that rifle was "mint", I would hate to see one in fair-good condition. I was lucky, as my friend agreed to take the "mint" one and give me my original one back. Last thing I ever considered buying from him.:p:p
 
I was talking to Collectors firearms in the US they were thinking of doing the same that is not ship to Canada . So I'm going to send them some info they don't no are laws I also told them to get payment up front and make it the buyers responsibility to get it across the border and his loss if it gets seized .That is what Dixie Gun works does every thing is at the buyers cost if it gets sent back you have to pay shipping again . very few Canadians have been sending them CFC letters . so be responsible buyers take the time get the letter from the CFC stating its antique status fax this to your US dealer and tell him to put a copy of it in an envelope marked Canada Customs . and you should have no problems.
 
Important Update !!!

Hi everyone, GOOD NEWS!!! :dancingbanana: I have just spoke to Joe Jr Salter, and they are still willing to ship antique class guns to Canada !! :D I have just bought a gun there, and they said as long we provide them the ANTIQUE STATUS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT LETTER from CFC /RCMP they will gladly ship the (ANTIQUE class Only) gun you want to Canada.

The problem was with Canadian Customs. But By providing the letter there shall be NO PROBLEMS !!!

I suggested that they put it in writing on their web site!!

Just wanted to spread the good news to those who might wanna know.
