I've read some unfavorable reviews online.. anyone have firsthand experience with these??

It literally just came out, so unless there are beta testers within CGN ...

The bad reviews I've seen personally where from torture tests. If someone wants a SHTF/combat ready optic, getting an entry level low cost unit isn't the way to go. But for a range toy, that seems like a hell of a bargain.

I was wondering about other mounting options, so I read the ad and watched the unboxing video. The sight has a footprint that matches that of the RMR, and it comes with screws to mount it directly to a slide which is cut for a RMR.
To go onto a rail, it would require an additional base.

I've carried a little Olight flashlight in my pocket for months. If the sight is as durable as this light, I would have no worries in that regard.

Do you need to purchase an additional plate or is this ready to mount on a picatinny rail?

They are RMR footprint. They have a picatinny base that will eventually be available, but it's sadly not included and not available for purchase yet. Would've been nice if it was included but again, it's a really low cost unit...

The unit tested on was a prototype.

Olight do offer a lifetime warranty on them.

The one guy got sent another one after contacting Olight and the second one had the same problem. That particular video was released after they were available for purchase in the US, so unsure why they would be using prototypes.
