Kodiak Defence K9 PCC Review / info thread

does anyone know the answer to this question? And if not does the FX9 or Raven accept an AR9 barrel/nut and handguard ?
I got the answer to your question from Google in less than a min. Yes on the barrel, Google the 2nd question. You will have the answer back in less time it will take you to respond to this post. Hint: there is a clue in my confirmation on the 1st question.

Dude, I googled and thumbed through random guys on Reddit I trust much less than most experienced gunners on CGN. if you want to be a twit, good job but not interested in anonymous people riddles lol

K9 is heavy. Refused to lock open on empty mag( deal killer in ipsc). Mine was over gassed( even w glasses on had issues w crap in my eyes) . Because the buffer is in fact proprietary i could find no way to manipulate it or change it out. If this gun had an adj buffer it would run pretty good. I suspect this gun is set up this way to run weaker ammo.

It’s funny how two of the same carbines can function so differently. While I also find the K9 to be heavy, to me it’s no worse than my PC9 which is a pig of a gun. I’ve also never had my bolt not lock back on an empty mag, now I only use OEM Glock mags and Pmags so I’m not sure if other mags could make a difference in that department? When I first shot it I experienced a ton of blow back also, and being a lefty I was thinking perhaps this isn’t for me, however after adding an aftermarket ambi charging handle I was surprised to find it eliminated for sure 90% of the blow back. I can only assume I was getting a pile of gas venting through the stock charging handle as the aftermarket one seems much tighter in there?
I had the chance to run it in a 2Gun competition two weekends ago and it was flawless. I was able to grab one of the 9 1/2” uppers from Kodiak last week and although I haven’t been able to run it in a competition setting yet I was able to get a couple of practice sessions in and I’m looking forward to running it in this configuration at the next event. It has reduced the weight significantly and absolutely changed the feel of this carbine big time.
Sorry to hear you had such a negative experience with the K9 but so far mine has been nothing but positive

All that matters is your gun works, and yours does so this makes me happy. Been around a lot of guns for a lot of years and one thing ive learned is every firearm is an individual. Be it a .22 or a 155mm some are sweethearts some are scrap metal. I wrapped my dirty fingers around a ghm and havent looked back. Highly recommend, i think its worth the body part i had to give up for it.....If that K9 fits you(MOST IMPORTANT) youve got something, Now all we both gotta do is go to matches and grin.

Also should mention, wasnt just the excessive gas to the face my gun launched empty brass( i tried a lot of diff weights and power factors)about 4 miles. Too much bolt speed. Most other guns its easy too change the weight of the bolt carrier mass and stroke length which solves this problem as well as change the way the gun recoils.

what mags were you using?

I found the FX-9 equally gassy. Must be the blow-back + AR design..

I installed a Radian Raptor "SD" charging handle which is meant for suppressor use, and that helped. Luckily the K9 uses standard charging handles, unlike the FX-9 which is proprietary (and the FX-9's handle is a wobbly mess compared to even the stock k9 handle).

tried diff. glock mags and p mags. Yes all blowback are gassy, gets worse with a can. K9 relies on a spring for lock open which is not a good design. Add to that glock mags where they interact with the bolt hold open does not have a lot of pressure on the follower at the front. Also forgot to mention my gun ate the locking block, it didnt tear a chunk out it peened it so the stop itself was not hardened steel, again not good. My buddy is running an fx9 runs good only had to add a trigger and an adjustable buffer(solved a lot of his gas issue) but so far so good and he changed his charg hand as well. It is a truly sad state of affairs when someone has to spend 5 or 6 k to get something that runs out of the box( and that is no guarantee either)or buy something affordable and finish building so that its reliable. I really wanted to love the K9 cause Canada. If they would put the K9 on a diet, fix the crap i whined about esp an adjustable buffer and offered me a 7-10 in barrel............i would buy another and try again(im a sucker for punishment).

Right, so if they basically made a completely different rifle, you might be interested? Me too. ;)

There is NOTHING in a pcc on the Canadian market at any price point that is perfect out of the box. Some like the GHM9 and APC9 have far less to mess with (their trigger is trash out of the box).
Some require more refinement and experimentation (ie; FX9, K9, and even the raven 9).
I've shot every available option in our market so far, and if you are on a budget the PC Carbine from Ruger is about as good as it gets, but it has a few issues as well....same with the SPC9 (Uber Gucci, but still not perfect).
My recommendation is do some research on the platforms you have invested in already. There is an K9 Facebook page and a guy on there had rigged up an adjustable buffer system....and you can now get a 9.5" upper for the K9

Cheers,
ADC

Excellent post, very informative. I am interested in the K9. What would your thoughts be between this or the JR carbine? I’m leaning more towards the K9.
