Although I don't need any ammo I always check out the stock wherever I go, mostly out of curiosity. This is in Walmart today.
3 bucks a pop for Federal blue box was a shock. Anyone else seeing crazy prices?

Only for the last 4 years or so.
LOL, last two for sure. One reputable dealer had some odd pricing, and I commented on junk ammo being more than some of the Lapua and Norma stuff. He pointed out the junk stuff had just come in (this was last year) and they had the new crazy prices, like 1.5X lapua. Nuts

Right before pandemic kicked off I got 180 Nosler CC 168s with 120 of those blue box for $180 plus the silly $43 shipping with Canpar... Felt cheated by that

Then, I looked at the $4 / bullet the CCs were a year or two ago, felt pretty good about setting up for reloading early into this hobby

Made me laugh when iI saw your post, I too checked out Walmart in Merrit BC on my way through, I gasped at the $84.00 223 Rem 77 grain boxes of 20 rds

The Federal .303 I saw at Cabela's goes for $79.99, glad I looked elsewhere found prices half that. Crazy stuff haha.

Back in '19 I bought a few bricks of SK+ and SK-RM for $8/box. This Winter I had to re-stock and it came to $15/box. Even low-end Eley was ca $10.
Luckily I also bought a bunch of .223/5.56 and .308 at "Normal" prices back then. 50c for .223 and .75-1.00 for .308; even "Match" was OK at $1.50 and $2.50 per round. It hurts when I fire those, thinking of the "Replacement Cost".

Walmart and Cdn Tire don't care. Not their primary SKU driving sales. Any site sponsor here sells for way lower.

I think these retail outlets that sell ammo will always have higher price points than dedicated local, non franchised or non chain gun stores.

That is crazy for Powershok 308. That stuff is $37 - $43 at most gun stores. And the Mili...holy cow, I was buying that from Al Flaherty's for $8.99 a box only a couple of months ago.

I find the same thing going into Cabela's. Except for the previous Norinco 7.62x39 red box sales, never will I see ammo cheaper there than at any one of our site sponsor stores here.

It SEEMS (at least to me) that for some calibers, the prices have remained flat for a bit. Some 9mm was on a sharp upwards trajectory and now looks like has settled back to prices from a couple of years ago. But in owning firearms for almost 20 years now, I have seen as a general rule the prices progressively going one way, and it's not down. So never a bad idea to pickup ammo during sales. The savings may seem marginal now, but I betcha a tofu and kale salad that you'll be glad you loaded up now, when looking in retrospect a few years from now.

Eyup. I picked up 3 boxes of S&B 180gr SPs in 30-06 for $34/box just about 3 months ago. They're $45 now.

Oh buddy check out how crazy this Cdn tire priced their green tips. 🤯

Seriously steer clear of the grand majority of corporate owned stores that handle ammo. Lots of family owned stores can beat the corporate dummies on ammo any day.

The sad thing is, there are people out there who don't know any better, or are not aware of of the focused gun stores (not the general big box types) who would actually pay these exorbitant prices.

Canadian tires around the okanagan have sales from time to time. I always have a look if I’m in the store anyways.

Both before and during the pandemic, I stocked up on all kinds of ammo. Not regretting it now at all. But the flip side of that is that I've barely shot any of my guns in the past 6 months because I don't want to replace the ammo that I'm stocked up on.

Some cheap surplus 7.62x39 and 9mm is pretty well all that I've sent down range in months because I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices being asked these days.

It an American election year though. So things are likely to get scarce and even more stupid by this time next year. What wonderful times we live in.

Our Wally World has gone nutz too with ammo prices.

The last gun show I went to I remarked how prices were at or slightly above gun store prices. I was told several things:

1. "Not locally: this is shipping free!"

2. "By the time you get to the store this price will be lower."

and

3. "I'm not recording your PAL and ratting you out to the man".

High ammo prices are everywhere. I just looked at a bunch of local prices and was shocked.
