LVPO scope for Tavor 556

Hi guys,

Looking for a nice LVPO scope for the Tavor.
I handled the Vudu 1-5 which is about 1500
I also handled the vortex 1-6 which is a more reasonable 600.
Both are calibrated for 223/556.

Glass quality is fairly close as far as I can tell with my astigmatism and glasses.
Leaning towards the Vudu.
Buy once cry once I figure.
Warranty on the Vortex seems to be better and their depot is local to Ontario.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Or other options to look at.
 
I have a couple 1-8x Vortex Strike Eagle's

They are good enough for me. I wrestled with getting an Eotech or Trijicon or something more battle tested, but couldn't justify it in the end
 
Give strong consideration to the Arken EP-8. It is a full-featured LPVO that packs a ton of value into a very reasonable $500 price-point. Japanese ED Glass, 34mm Main Tube, First Focal Plane, Capped Turrets with exceptionally tactile adjustment, innovative "Killbox" Reticle with Bullet-Drop Compensation, and so on. Mine is nice and bright with no discernable chromatic abberation. The control rotate smoothly and firmly. Reasonably-priced Arken-branded Cantilever Mount, Rings, Throw-Levers and Bubble Levels round out the package, along with a Lifetime Warranty and a Canadian Warranty Centre. I like the EP-8's features and price-point so much that I bought 4 of them to outfit each of my NR semi-auto rifles. Check out Rangeview Sports or other site sponsors for all of your Arken needs!

Have you considered why you think you need magnification?

I had a couple of LVPO and was putting them on rifles because I thought I needed magnification. When I considered the kind of shooting I mostly do I realized I really don't need magnification.

The problem w LPVO's is they are considerably bigger and much heavier than a red dot. Of course each type of optic has its benefits and drawbacks. The X95 isn't exactly a svelte rifle and there will be other accessories you will want to add. Saving a bit of bulk and weight on the optic is really worthwhile. If you look at the IDF issued X95 they all run 1x dot or holographic type sights. There is a reason for that.

Jumped on the Vudu.

Gonna try it out and see how it goes.

I went with generic high 30 mm rings.
Hopefully that was not a mistake.
At least rifle will look fairly Gucci..
 
I like a 1-8 LPVO on my X95 but my eyes aren't awesome and I like to shoot it up to 300m. Previously had a 3x fixed setup and wanted more power.

I currently have a $600 Primary Arms SLX on it but am strongly considering upgrading to a PLX Compact because I'm so smitten with it. Strike Eagle is also good for the money, feels pretty close to SLX quality.

I personally prefer the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8, I find it vastly superior to the 1-6 in clarity and brightness and has a true 1x.

I got a great deal on an Arken EP-8 and was very excited to try it out based on reviews from bartok and others. It really does have a lot of great features for the price, but when I compared it side by side with my Vortex, it just didn’t hold up so I sold it. YMMV but that’s my experience.
 
Big bummer.
The high rings are not high enough.
Can see about 2/3 of the bottom of the sight picture, if i smush my head into the buttstock.

Don't know if I should try the extra high, or XX high.

Sight is chonky. Takes up a lot of the Tavor's real estate.
I had a brain fart and thought I could cowitness the back up sights with the scope. Nope.
I'm no tactical panda, so maybe I'll just forego the extra 10 seconds it takes to remove the scope rings.
 
The voodoo is a quality optic and should serve you well for sure.

For others also considering a LPVO in that range I really like the Trijicon 1-8, great glass and reticle and illumination and turrets and very solidly built. Bit pricey and heavy as you’d expect.

LOL - I have had the exact opposite experience with the Vortex Strike Eagle versus the Arken EP-8. I had 3 of the 2nd Focal Plane Strike Eagle 1-8x and one of the more expensive FFP 1-8x Strike Eagle Scopes. I have nothing against Vortex, as you can see. However, after experiencing the many features of the Arken 1-8 together with its very good (not quite excellent) glass, I sold off 2 of my 2nd Focal Plane Strike Eagles in favour of more Arken EP-8s. I'd say that the best/closest/truest comparison would be the FFP Strike Eagle versus the FFP EP-8. Level playing field. But then you are paying $879 for the Vortex as opposed to $500 for the Arken. You'd certainly expect the Vortex to have the advantage based solely on price, however I suspect that the actual results would be much closer than you'd think if an objective assessment were conducted.

I think this just demonstrates that there is no accounting for taste, and everyone has their own personal preferences, or maybe our eyes just don’t all work the same. It stresses the importance of trying things out for yourself.

The Arken had several features that are definitely superior to the Vortex, but for me the brightness and clarity just weren’t there.

Another factor in optic selection that doesn’t really get a lot of attention when speaking of the LPVO market is reticle style. Again, personal preferences vary considerably. I use an LPVO mainly as a glorified red dot to compensate for my astigmatism, with the option of magnification for longer shots, and I prefer a basic crosshair or at least a less-busy reticle as a result. If you plan on using the zoom on yours for longer shots regularly and anticipate needing to accommodate for windage or drop, a fancier reticle may be better suited for your purposes.

Bottom line, get out there and try a few models to see what works for you.

A 1.93 mount was perfect for me, gets the optic to AR height. Other option is replacing the rail with an higher aftermarket one.

How big is your head. Or that makes no difference?

I can bite the bullet and go for the Eotech cantilever mount.
It is a bit pricey at 280 or something in that ballpark.
Is that what you are referring to?

How do you find the setup?

It is excellent. The Raven "Eh R" is the next best thing to an AR15 and functions/feels identical for all practical purposes. Mine is sufficiently accurate to ring steel at 500m with boring regularity when the cross-winds aren't too high. I quite like the Raven topped with the Arken EP-8 - it definitely scratches that "itch"...
 
I know it’s not a LPVO but I put a NF SHV 3-10 on my Raven 5.56. Works very nice for calling coyotes. The Arken EP-8 would work well on a coyote gun as well. For a tavor or X95, myself I’d probably stick with a red dot

Yes, 1.93 inches above rail. There are a few mount options in this height, I ended up with an American Defense Manufacturing one which wasn't cheap but brings it to the right height for me.
