Citadel levers, anyone own one?

No personal experience but a picture of one that I just looked at had the Peepsight nearly scout scope area. I thought the Peepsight was supposed to be back in the tang. They seem expensive enough I’d rather go with a known product. I have no idea why lever guns used to be 600 bucks and are now 1200-2500. Are they that much harder to make than a bolt gun?

I don’t own one, but I shot a .45 Colt 20” short rifle example. Amazingly smooth action. Also very accurate. Shouldered just like my Uberti’s…wonderful.

EDIT; opps, I see you’re asking about Citadel. I was talking about an 1873 Cimarron. Sorry.

If my tracking number is to be believed, my Citadel in 44mag is supposed to show up this week. I won't be able to shoot it for a bit, but I can hopefully tell pretty quick if it was a good purchase

I have both the 357 Mag and 45 Colt version. I like them. Peep sight is OK.

My issue is the top rail is held on by tiny screws. For both of mine, when I put a scout scope on and shot a bunch the rail (and scope) came off. Had to get a gunsmith to retap the barrel on the 357 Mag. For the 45 Colt, I ended up putting on a small red dot that, so far, has held up.

Current plan is to take the 45 Colt hunting for deer and/or black bear this fall. Nice light gun to carry in the woods.

YMMV

I have the 410
extraction and ejection is a bit weak on it
the factory front sight was nowhere near on so i put a cheap bushnell red dot on it and wow this thing is deadly now
squirrels absolutely hate this thing
I was on the fence on how I liked it at first but I am growing to like it a lot
It's a 94 style action and not a 92 like they say. I am not sure on the pistol caliber ones though they may be a 92 action
they are expensive though, for a little more $$$ you can get a Henry or a Rossi
I agree, all these lever guns are overpriced for what they are

Word on the street is these are made in the same factory as Rossi.

I have the Levtac 16.5 in 357. Yes, they are made by Rossi. They need a little smoothing out at first, and I also came to realize that the mag spring is from a 20" model which made loading very difficult. I ended up trimming the spring about 10cm and now it is much better. Solid guns and if you can find them on sale they are worth it. I took the peep sight off mine and threw a Burris 2-7 scout scope on it.

Light and handy. It's the perfect truck gun.

Nice, how did you smooth it out? Take it apart and polish the internals? I like how yours look?

I picked up my Citadel 44mag from the post office yesterday. Did a quick unboxing and wipe down. Haven't got it to the range yet, maybe on next days off? I need to load up more 44mag but it turns out I don't have a trimmer pilot for 44, so it'll have to wait. Gun seems smooth enough out of the box. I'd read on other places that the top rail sometimes comes loose, and I had a plan to remove all the screws and loctite them back in place, but looking at it I can see evidence of there already being loctite on them, so I left them alone. For now I'll run the peep sight, but I'm debating putting on a Vortex red dot I have laying around, I'll just need to check what the eye relief is like on it

I took it a part and gave it a good cleaning, didn't really polish any thing. Oiled it up and worked snap caps thru the action a few hundred times. Also spent a lot of time praticing spin cocking it. Much easier than with the Norc 1887 I have.

I wish there was a standard size loop available for them in Canada, love mine but not a big loop fan. Other than that it’s ran flawless with everything I’ve fed it (.357 and .38 hand loads and factory ammo). Love the weight of it, really easy lightweight handling rifle.

You might be able to find someone who wants to trade a big loop for a small, not sure how interchangeable they are but likley with modern manufacturing the tollerances between parts at Rossi/CBC is pretty good.
