Loading for a Ruger American Rifle in 6 Creedmoor..... Ruger says it has a twist rate of 1:7.7 so it should be able to stabilize heavier-for-calibre bullets.

I want to use Hornady 103 gr ELD-X bullets, and when I first looked for load data, Hodgdon online did have data for them with RL17 and at least 2 other powders, which I wrote down at the time. I had decent accuracy at 39.5 grains but once I hit 40.0, accuracy went into the toilet and all the case necks split. I pulled the last couple loads a full grain below the listed max, which one assumes is lawyer-approved to be on the conservative side. Brass is once-fired Hornady with large rifle primer pockets; primers were BR2's.

Edited to add: I am going to use Lapua brass with SRP pockets next.

Hodgdon no longer lists this bullet weight, nor this powder, for this cartridge. I can fart around with their data for 100 and 105 grain pills, and I have at least half a dozen of the powders they list, BUT........

........is there another (better) source for load data on this cartridge? I have about 20 loading manuals, but the newest is probably 10 years old and does not have 6 Creedmoor. I would just as soon not buy ANOTHER manual to get data for a single cartridge.

Any advice from folks that actually do load or have loaded 6 CM?

I have a 6mm CM and use IMR4350 with all bullet weights that I have tested 103gr - 112gr and they all shoot good, in the brass with the small primer pocket I load CCI 450 SRMP and in the brass with LR pockets I load Fed 210. Hornady also has load data for the 6mm CM

Thanks! As it happened, I loaded up a bunch last evening with IMR 4350 and CCI BR4's. Hope to get to the range this week to see how they shoot.

6mm Creed is a pleasure to shoot and load for. I've struggled a bit however with the 103gr ELDx in my rifle. The factory ammo shoots OK, but handloads haven't been working with this bullet. I've tried H4350, H100V, N555 and RL22 with no good results. The rifle shot 105gr Amax so incredibly well, I'd have to shoot a group with that Amax after a few terrible ELDx loads just to confirm the scope wasn't broken LOL - I tried the Sierra 100gr tipped gameking with RL23 and it shoots just as well as the Amax. I'll keep my remaining 103 ELDx for my kid's 6mm ARC

H4350 through N565 burn rate works well in the 6mm Creed with 100ish grain bullets

Many thanks for this! I did load up a bunch of the 103s with IMR 4350, so will see how they do in my rig.

If you don't have any RL16, try H100V.

It's very consistent all around and does well with both standard and magnum primers. A friend of mine is using small rifle primed cases. I don't know if he's necking down 6.5cm or if it's available. The Magnum small rifle primers seem to provide a very consistent burn rate and close velocity spreads with H100V

I was at the range yesterday with half a dozen rifles to burn some powder. Same bullet, 103 gr ELD-X, in Lapua brass with BR-4s. The one load with RL-17 that had been OK in the Hornady brass produced two three round "groups" of 2 inches at a hundred yards. First load with IMR 4350 had the same result. Second group with 4350 put three into half an inch at a hundred. I have 6 more loads, each with more powder, to test next time out. But anyways, it appears that this powder is going to work with this bullet/brass/primer combo.

Interesting to me, I found the same bullet and same powder (but a much bigger charge) looks like a winner in a new-to-me rifle in 6 x 62 Freres that went to the range for the first time yesterday. That one barks a lot louder than the Creedmoor..... ;)

Thanks for your responses, folks!
