Need a Scope Education

I thought height might come up. I've read that height is important and using proper torque to mount the scope is important.

That being said, is there something I can measure or read/watch that will help me determine the proper sizing for the rings? And. What kind of rings might these be? I only own one other rifle with a scope and it came set up like this, I'd like to buy the same as these seem to work well enough. (no markings on them that I can see and it's a Leupold scope and I don't want to take things apart)

Height is important for the scope bell clearing the barrel. Higher off the bore you go, the more adjustment required to zero. Also nobody likes a chin weld. Proper torque so you don't crush the scope tube tightening too much. Or too loose and scope moves.

You can put a gun in a rest and use blocks of wood and cardboard to lift up the scope to the height that is comfortable then measure. Mount to bottom of the tube.

Some ring companies don't use the saddle height measument ( where the ring sits on the mount, to the bottom of the scope tube ) They will use from where the ring sits on the mount to the center of the ring. So basically saddle height plus .5inch for 1 inch rings.

Used scope arrived today and I mocked it up by feel and it came to 9.5mm between the top of the rail and the bottom of the scope tube. Math according to the diagram in post #21 came out to 10.5mm, worked out good and close. I emailed Tenda about some rings.

JMO, but that looks fairly high. The scope bell looks to be over 1/2" off the barrel ? How good a cheek weld will that give you ? Is the stock that high back there ?

Lots of comments about clearance to the barrel - do not forget about clearance for your bolt handle - I attempted to install a Leupold Freedom Rimfire scope onto a BRNO No. 1 rifle - nice clearance to barrel with Warne brand Medium rings - but the bolt handle hit the scope's eye-piece - I had to go with High rings, or would have had to bend that bolt handle and then re-inlet that wood.

I don’t have any more pictures but the stock goes up a bit back there on the Ranch Gen2, more than usual I’d say. Cheek rest feels fine but it’s being rested on wedges and held on by tape, I’m not messing around with it too much. Bolt does clear, that was a concern of mine from the start.
I gotta find a site that give spec measurements for scope rings. Just to be sure and a little confident about my order. One Tenda guy told me to go high. One told me to go medium.

I don’t have any more pictures but the stock goes up a bit back there on the Ranch Gen2, more than usual I’d say. Cheek rest feels fine but it’s being rested on wedges and held on by tape, I’m not messing around with it too much. Bolt does clear, that was a concern of mine from the start.

If it helps the OP - most of the time the maker / vendor use of the words "Low", "Medium" and "High" do not match to each other - one brand's "Medium" might have the scope sitting further from the rifle than other brand's "High". I notice several will give an actual dimension - but some measure from scope ring base to bottom of scope tube; and others measure from bottom of that base to the centre of the scope tube. It is my personal preference to work with actual dimensions, but your mileage might vary.

Every scope ring company will give you the spec of their rings. But remember not everybody uses metric and use saddle height as the reference. Burris will go from top of the mount to center of the ring ( center of the scope )
