Nighthawk custom resale value

While I applaud your willingness to make a point, I read through all of your provided threads and many are at best pretty weak. A magazine that cracked, the odd ejected shell hitting the shooter. A pin breaking. Not really a litany of serious problems. As for numbers of complaints based on numbers of guns, there are not that many Les Baer guns in Canada, and yet one of the CGNers that has one had a warranty issue. Does that make them all substandard?
First of all, those are just a few examples that I found during a quick 5-minute search. I'm sure you can find plenty more if you were willing to invest the time. Second, I guess it depends on how you define a serious problem. To me, ejecting empty rounds into the shooter's face, extraction problems, and premature wear would be unacceptable in a gun costing $1000, let alone $3000.

Ejection patterns are often ammo related, and the complaint was that the ejected casing hit him in the head not face. This is a common 1911 complaint.
Premature wear is pretty much in the eye of the beholder. But in the short barrelled guns it is very important to replace recoil springs quite often to prevent it (regardless of manufacturer).
Once again of the handfull of Les baer guns owned by CGNers at least one had to have warranty work done to it. It costs 30% more than a comperable NH. So I fail to see your point.

From reading the American boards, I hardly ever hear of any problems with Les Baer and Ed Brown. Owner complaints regarding NHC guns seem to be far more frequent, even though NHC hasn't been in business nearly as long as the other two (and produced far fewer guns).

I think one of the reasons why NHC seems to have a poorer track record than some other high-end 1911s has to do with the fact NHC uses a lot of outsourced components, while companies like Baer and Brown mostly manufacture their own. NHC simply does not have as much control over the quality of its pistols.

I would agree with you that this seems to be a weakness for them. However wrt to production numbers I was surprised that NH produces 2x more guns that Brown and more than half of what Baer does (or at least they did in 2005)

Maybe things are not as bad as you make them out to be.

Ok this thread is totally boring but I do request respectfully that TSE unbore me by updating the products for sale on their website. Can I get a 2nd on that?

I second the motion, but then again I'm in there 2-3 times a week so I get to play with the eye candy.(No I'm not talking about Cori.) :D

I've never been to TSE in person as I haven't been back in Calgary since I got back into shooting. I did have the pleasure of talking with Cori on the phone while ordering some mags. I'll have to drop in and bother everyone later in the Spring when I go there on business.

.

I'm a bum and even I can tune a 1911 to eject properly. Spent brass should eject to the same area regardless of load.

One thing is sure ..... im definitly confused whether to get one or not !!!!

Herman,

What is your experience with 1911s? Did you ever own/shoot a Colt?

All 4 high-end 1911 smiths mentionned in this thread make good guns! Some have better customer service, some have good prices, some have excellent reliability, some are a bit more precise....

IMHO...if you combine...price, customer service, reliability and precision.....I think that Les Baer gets first place.
Second I would take Nighthawk!

Here's mine...:)

I own a Colt lightweight commander MKIV 80 and i dont like it . But i do love my STI Ranger II . I like the look and size of the NHC T3 and the price is pretty good . If i can sell my 2 1911 id get it i think .

As the distributor for the pistols in Canada, we have been very pleased with the quality and service from Nighthawk. We also have established a warranty center in Canada, which is authorized by Nighthawk. Having bought one of the pistols myself I have been very pleased at fit/finish/performance/value for the money, my GRP pistol came with a 3lbs trigger and shoots well beyond my ability, and having owned custom .45's (LesBaer/Novak/Wilson/Springfield & Kimber custom) they have the features I want along with a complete customer support system. Granted having read the previous posts regarding consumer complaints on other boards, given the time and energy I can dig up the same issues with many other custom pistols builders. We sale/service a product that some customer will gravitiate to and others will not, that being said and done consumers will make their decisions based on wants more so than needs. On a personal note I have also just ordered myself a Vickers Custom Nighthawk pistol, yes you are all correct I want it more than I need it.

You are about a day late in complaining. Look at the site.
Not sure if that will make things less boring though.

I can second that. I had terrible problems wih my 1911 ejecting brass right into my fore head. It would do it at least once a mag and the rest of the brass was scattered all around the range. The only ammo I could get at the time was winchester white box.

After starting to reload I found my loads were ejecting properly and were consistant to the point that all the brass landed within two feet of each other.

I've seen more than one gun do it with other ammo as well.

It's not often that I see a pistol that makes me think of the word "magnificent", but this is one such occasion. I think I'm actually drooling a little bit.
