Talk me into a JR Carbine

I have JR and Ruger PCC (both in 9mm)

The Ruger is heavier and definitely better built. That’s not to say the JR isnt well built, just that the Ruger is almost over built.

If I’m heading to range with limited time I’ll always pick the JR over the Ruger because it’s more fun to shoot. If it was the end of the world and I just had room to pack one I’d take the Ruger because it will last forever.

I run Pmag’s in both with no issues at all.

I've heard from several people at my local range the Ruger PCC does not like to hold zero when you take it down.....not sure if this is still happening?

Granted this was years ago when they first arrived in Canada

I clean my 9mm jrc when the bolt starts to get really stiff. About 2500 to 3000 rounds. Fed normally the cheapest ammo I can find in bulk. Champion aluminum works great. Accuracy suffers a tad with that ammo but it's horribly cheap. Ae brass or any decent ammo and it shoots tight lil groups. All in all an excellent gun. Great for wolf and grouse hunting. I've even carried it when bear baiting
I run promags

It is interesting about the cleaning intervals. Isn't the JR a blowback system? If so, I guess not all blowbacks are made the same. The only reason why I clean my FX9 every 50-100 rounds or so is because if I don't I start having performance issues. The FX9 also needs a lot of lubrication in order to run optimally.

The JR's disassembly can't be as convoluted as the Ruger PC Carbine can it? Requiring separate tools, and having that insane 65 inch pounds of torque for some of the screws (yep the manual even says this).

The combination of good accuracy coupled with a lengthy between cleanings interval seems to be pretty compelling, and make my typical requirement of a last round bolt hold open, perhaps a moot consideration given the other positives.

Book says to run the JRC dry. Hard to gum it up if all the residue is powdery.
May be time for us to do a comparison run.

I've spent plenty of time with a JRC and FX9, they're very different when it comes to maintenance.
I've gone as long as ~800 rounds between cleanings on a 9mm JRC, and never had a single failure. The only reason we stopped at 800 was because it was all shot in a single afternoon and we wanted to eat dinner and drink beer. I wouldn't be surprised if it could go 1500-2000 rounds without gumming up. It never saw more than light lubrication - rem oil wiped on with a rag. Never had to run it wet, no "break in period".
My FX9 was finicky until the round count had climbed. Early on they need to be run wet, really wet, but they get better after they're "broken in". I installed a gen 2 feed ramp later on, and after taking the old part out I wish that I had polished it out of the box. It wasn't smooth, and likely didn't help with feeding.

I like them both. The Ruger is decent too, and once you install the MCarbo upgrades they should last forever.

LOL ;)

Yes! Thanks for the info guys! Drive down to RDSC on Thursday and bought some! Got me some PMags too! Shoots great so far!

Congratulations! Looks great ! Same as mine, grab a magpul 50 round drum to have on hand as well! But make sure it's for the PCC as the other one Is for Glock handguns, they are slanted differently

I wont talk you into one.
I had a lot of issues with mine.
The first one i got and "spacing issues" It would work well with 115g ammo, but nothing larger. You simply couldn't eject a non fired round.
It would break the extractor. they sent it back
sent a new rifle and it had Triger problems from hell.
the vendor returned my money. never looked back.
I have heard that the Gen 2 has a lot of these issues fixed.

Our goofy laws leave these rifles with awkwardly long barrel lengths.

Looks alone have kept me away from the JR, Aero And others

I have the JR in.45. Uses Glock mags.
The .45 model had some well documented issues wth failure to feed.
Used to drive the bullet almost flush with the case. Very annoying to say the least.
There were lots of backyard fixes ie turning the mag follower around etc.
Finally got ahold of the factory, explained my issue and they said “ hang in there and we will get back to you soonest”.
Yeah right i thought. To my surprise they contacted me a day later and said send it to Ellwood Epps for warranty work our cost.
The rifle was gone for a month or so before it came back.
It now performs flawlessly with all ammo i use.
The work order indicates the buffer, feed ramp and barrel were all replaced.
The warranty dept phoned me about 3 wks after the rifle got back to me to check
on the repair.
So, after a slow frustrating start this rifle is now one of my favourites.
