1960 model 70 338 waiting to go moose hunting.

Good on you for exercising the old girl

testing my M77 338 today to be ready for an elk hunt in 2 weeks
the gun has been designated for elk, I have others that will do of course but if I don't make the effort it will never see the light of day :)
225 Interbonds for mine, after the old XLCs are used up

My shoulder hurts just thinking of 338.

I have my model 70 300 Win. Mag for sale because if the recoil.

Fabulous long range gun, we have 600 yard range and it hits where you aim it.

apples/apples, the 338 has similar ballistics to the 300
but mine is a more friendly load, only running about 2500

Same here, 2550 using H4895 and a 260gr partition. I don’t really shoot past a couple hundred yards, so a friendlier load is easy to do. I find it a different recoil then the fast magnums, a thump/push more so then a snap.

I have a rifle that has only had a few rounds down the pipe, and she is about to go moose hunting... mid september here in newfoundland. A beautiful rifle. I can see why people go nuts over the pre 64 model 70s. Hope to have some update pics with fur on the ground soon.
What area will you be hunting in

Nice! What bullet doeas it like?
it has only had a few bullets through it yet. winchester 200s. i have a box of 250 brownings for it, but they are 64 yrars old. waiting on some sakos for it. found superformance, but have had bad performance with that line in the past.... shot a moose from yards and the bullet didnt expand at all.. was recvered when the moose was skinned.

i remember the old rugers that came in stalinless with a black stock... almost bought another 338 today, to toss on the bike when i go for a drive. I can take my atv right from town to my hunting camp. it was a savage brush hunter.
