Usually the M9 bayonet will fit.

Im assuming the top support attaches to the barrel
how hard are these on the barrel with recoil ie. scratching or gouging

As it says in listing with all of our bayonet mounts it fits the M7.

** we also have had several people use the USMC M9 bayonet wirh no issues

I've attempted to mount an M9 bayonet. It seems the ring is too small to fit the end cap. Perhaps my bayo is out of spec? It fits my AR15's just fine.

I'll investigate further, perhaps buying an M7 will correct things.

So we have some good news on this.
Doing some more development. We have now produced a smaller bayonet spigot for this M4 bayonet mount system.
This will allow the M9 style bayonets to fit.
It would seem that the M9 and other produced to this spec have a smaller hole in the handle .

We will be providing both and M7 and M9 spigot with these sets going forward.

Anyone that has ordered the M4 bayonet set in the last 90 days that needs the M9 spigot please contact sales@sjhardware.com with your order number and a request .
