So basically I'm looking to hit a target which is at 900 feet with a 22lr (Thats basically the furthest at the range)
I have basic knowledge of doing a zero so I can zero comfortably at 25 or 50 yards from a bench.
What do i need to stretch out to those distances?
I have a Garmin chrono too but just need the formula so to speak of how to prepare for shots like this.

Thanks

300 yards is a long way with a .22. You need a scope that will reach that, which is a challenge because that is a ton of drop. 30, 40 and 50 MOA rails are nearly a requirement unless you have a monster scope with mega elevation.

Using a standard velocity .22LR and a 50y zero, your bullet drop at 300y is about 50MOA. So, your scope elevation adjustment with a 30MOA rail needs to be more than +- 20MOA. More is better obviously. Then, you need to figure out your wind drift. A 10mph (16kmh) wind at 90deg will drift your bullet about 11MOA. Shoot a lot and get familiar with changing winds and your particular setup. For ballistic information, I recommend the Hornady 4DOF ballistics calculator. The basic version is free and is all you really need.

My Range is 320m and ringing 8" = 10" steel at that distance is repeatable with a .22 - you will be fine! The wind can be a real challenge at those distances and that makes it fun. 50y zero works.

I would recommend a CZ 457 (what I have), Tikka T1X, or Bergara with a varmint barrel. Throw on a 30-50MOA rail and a 25 or 30 power scope like the Arken EP5, Bushnell Match Pro, or any of a dozen others with parallax and a 34mm tube.

You will find that decent ammo helps when you stretch it out, but you do not need to go crazy. My rifles like SK Long Range match, but Norma- Tac while get 'er done and is half the price.

That being said, I also have a CZ 452 with a 12 power scope and a hunting barrel that works fine out to 320m... I just need to dial and also holdover about 6mils, so if you don't have the ideal set-up it is not a big deal. If you already have a rifle and scope, whatever they are, give it a shot as you may be surprised.

I use a Garmin and the Geo Ballistics app and that works OK, but I do need to fine tune it with real world shooting to get me DOPE exact. But this is part of the fun and the higher power scope helps you see your misses easier in the dirt to make corrections.

With a 50 yard zero your going to require approximately 50 moa as RifleDude has said. It is not vudoo or magic! YOU CAN DO THIS EASILY. The biggest obstacle is seeing the splash or having a skilled spotter. The spotter needs to be on you right side just over your shoulder and holding the target in the bottom of their spotter. Remember the trajectory is going to be Rainbow like in flight(not lgbtqxyzaex whatevert) so the bullet will reveal itself way above the target. You cant correct what you cant see. A nice sand pit is the bomb as every shot shows itself in the the background. Follow thru on your gun will also let you track many of your own shots. Try safe dry firing where your crosshairs remain on the target after hammer drops. If you can do this itll be easy.

So my current rail is 0 MOA what rail would you recommend to grab 30/40/50?

Actually thats a great idea with the spotter as my main issue today was trying to find the splash to adjust the POA
I'd managed to see a couple of hits but that was about it.
I can also typically see shots landing/arcing but at 900 ft it was impossible.

Definitely on the ammo choice I was using Federal just for today but my next visit I'll bring a selection of Eley and try those out, it was very interesting seeing the chrono info so I think that'll give me more valuable info with some better ammo.
this is really just another rabbit hole I've fallen down but its great fun.

Rifle is a build I just finished
KIDD barrel 16.5
SBI receiver and various companies internals in a magpul hunter stock.
Its only had 150 rounds through it but working great.
Scope is a Vortex 4-16x42 diamondback

You are totally set, have you tried dialing out to 900 yet?

Maybe use a fridge box or something like that. I use posterboard from the $-store -2 for 65c -but its only 2x3-ft. Then draw bulls with marker OR print bulls on 8x11 and tape on. Uses a lot of ink tho. $-store for dri-markers, but they're ALL "washable" so avoid rain 😜

Great Idea on the posterboards, I'll have a scout for some bigger cardboard although those damn recyclables lol
