Press ram lube

Hey! May be a bit of a far out question but what does everyone use for lube on your press ram. Currently running a Lyman 8 turret press with the off spritz of wd40 and she’s starting to get dry again any insight is appreciated!

I use graphite dry lube. So it doesn't attract powder residue, crude or brass shavings.

I know its not a Dillon but I read the manual again yesterday as part of my ongoing troubleshooting and they recommend 30W oil and advise against solvent type lubes

I use Supco Gidds turbine oil, it is non gumming and has no detergent. Would also second the no penetrating fluid advice. Most penetrating fluids contain a lot of solvent to dissolve grudge/rust and carry some type of oil as a lubricant to be left behind after the solvent evaporates. I have heard that WD40 contains some fish oil. Whatever is in it, the product does create a bit of of a rust barrier but after a few months it turns to a sticky brown goo.

Have a bottle of STOS from Ponsness-Warren. A light coating is all that's needed. It stays in place and lives up to the Slicker Than Owl #### name.

Motor oil, garage door lube, motorcycle chain lube all work well.

My rockchucker was purchased in 1980 I have used it heavily ever since, always used 10w30 or similar it’s just as tight as a new one.

Same moly grease I use on the farm machinery for the ram and 3 in One on the pivots...A little dab with your finger goes a long way.

One of my presses...An All American was used by my Grand Dad then my father and now me for the last 40 years...Still tight.

WD40 is not a "good" lubricant is probably more correct. It was developed as a water displacement.
Fluid film is a good lubricant as well as any engine oil.

I wipe and lube the shaft before every session
the pins have been lubed with grease long ago...

I've always used 3-in-1 oil on all my presses (Forster co-ax, RockChucker 4, and Lock n' Load Turret Press).... doesn't need much

I use super lube or noleen sf3 grease

STP. Thick enough that it doesn't run off but nice and slippery for good lubrication. A small size container should last for years.
