Howdy, all.

A friend of mine is interested in dealing with a coyote problem. The dogs are smart enough to keep their movement to nighttime hours, so she's looking for an optic that amplifies light and allows her to pop 'em iin the dark.

Do you know of any sources of such things?

I'd be hesitant to venture $250-ish when 'real' NV starts at $1K or more (Prophet River-Konus). Maybe if you can try and return 'un-damaged' ?

Is there an exception for shooting varmints on a 'farm', etc?

Otherwise the Regs in AB are:

It is unlawful to hunt any wildlife or discharge a firearm between one-half hour after sunset and one-half hour before sunrise.

I'm guessing gunshots after sunset would draw the attention of the neighbors/PoPo.

Apparently the rules in Alberta on a private farm are, there are no rules!.....:)

We hunted gophers out near Claresholm, Alberta last year. One would be shocked as to what a farmer can do on his/her own property.

As for the Popo, I would think they have better things to do than hassle farmers shooting varmints or pests while protecting their livestock.

In the rural area near Cranbrook, BC where we live, night time guns shots are very common. In Kaslo, BC area, the exact same thing. I think locals understand and assume it's predator control and not poaching. I'm sure every area is different, and depends if you have Ken or Karen living next door to you.

Realtors always use the line, "location, location, location", I like, neighbors, neighbors, neighbors. Check out the neighbors before you buy a farm or acreage. Lots of Kooks from the Skook!......:)

That would be the issue IMHO.

I lived in Central AB around Rocky Mtn House for a number up years growing up and it was understood varmint control at any time was no problem. As always, just know where your bullets are going.

These days with city folk buying up rural property..... YMMV

Absolutely, safety first!

Rich city b@g-lickers are a real problem, not just in the rural areas.

The Liberal/Democrat narrative usually is associated with these idiots!......:(
