If I remeber right the XCR II was a green stock with black rubber inserts pretty similar to the SPS stock, which will be black and maybe have gray rubber inserts. The XCR II might say “XCR II” on the bottom metal plate. The big difference will be in the finish of the metal, the SPS is a really rough finish on the bolt and the whole barrelled action. The XCR II I think is a jewelled bolt that was nitrided after so the finish is a lot smoother.
I just worked on one for a buddy, says XCR and Stainless on the barrel, some kind of black coating in the metal, ain't sure.
Happened to take a pic of it by chance.

You won’t be disappointed. My xcrII 30-06 is my favourite rifle, the one i would never ever sell. It’s bedded in nice and light bell and Carlson sporter stock and shoots Remington 180 grain corelokts more accurately than any other more expensive ammo I’ve tried. It takes a real beating in thick forest and the finish holds up amazing with no rust issues ever.
Ironically, the reason buddy brought it over to me to work on, was the ejector was froze up with rust, would extract fine, but zero ejection.
Everything stainless except those little springs and plungers, nothing too far gone at least, good soak in balistol, working the plunger, blowing it all out with compressed air through the process, right back to functioning.
The SPS black models have a very rough powder coating. The XCR models have a much nicer finish, almost like a halfway point between a deep blueing and a ceracoating.

Yes, the XCR finish is night-and-day better than the SPS. I believe that the underlying metal is stainless with a nickel electroplate followed by the PVD coating. Whilst I've had an SPS flash rust just looking at them, I've only seen corrosion once on XCR metal, and that was when its barrel was in direct contact with very rusted barrel for a significant amount of time - and even then, the damage was just a small imperfection on that outermost PVD and nickel layer.
As someone mentioned, the small internal parts may not be as rustproof, but the rifle in general will be. With my XCR II 30-06, the only part that I really keep an eye are the scope mounts as they collect water, particularly the Torx screw heads.
