A 243 is fine for deer I have shot some nice deer with a 243 for coyotes i would use this caliber hands down it will do everything a smaller caliber and more
.243 will work fine for you for coyotes and deer, no problem. I'm partial to 6.5 x 55; groundhogs to moose; 85gr to 160gr.
I *think* BC is one of the few places yet where you can use a .22 CF. Most places specify .23 cal or bigger I believe, which in practical terms means some flavour of 6mm rifle.Unless you're in AB or SK coyote fur isn't worth the effort and even with current prices I doubt it is even in AB or SK so I say 22-250, and it drops Deer like they were hit by Lightning. Of course this assumes the legality of a 22 Centerfire on Deer in the place you live.
I didn’t realize I was limited to one bullet option. And your barrel.Enough to know go /no go based on my barrel length bullet type, weight, distance and approximate game size.
My whole point to all this is that people just say 243 is fine for deer without really thinking about all the details.
Only limited to one (the one that blows up deer) for the .300 too apparently....I didn’t realize I was limited to one bullet option. And your barrel.
Right bullet for the job!Love the 6.5x55 myself. Killed a coyote with it a little while back, and it was loaded with a 100 gr. hollow point. Factory load, comes in a box of 50 from Cabela's and seemed like a good way to collect more brass.
Was only about 80 yards away when I shot him broadside, and was somewhat surprised that the energy didn't blow a hole through the off side.
Your not but information on barrel lengths, velocity, bullet types is easily found online all with nice charts showing results and limits.I didn’t realize I was limited to one bullet option. And your barrel.
Totally agree, I don’t shoot them unless they come near the house pets or the chickens, beyond that they’re harmless scavengers. Again I think this debacle became “What caliber suites both harvesting coyote fur and venison”Coyotes got way too tame here and started taking bites out of newspaper boys but now are making themselves scarce again so I don't shoot them, but I don't see why anything more than a .223 soft point would be indicated, nor would I hesitate to pop one with a .22 LR if I had a good shot, meaning it was way too close to me for our mutual safety.
I’m not being obtuse at all. The fact of the matter is you have no parameters. All you can do is tell me to look in a book. You can’t provide any hard data on what will or will not work. You have zero experience with the cartridge you are saying won’t work on deer. And when confronted about it you talk in circles.Your not but information on barrel lengths, velocity, bullet types is easily found online all with nice charts showing results and limits.
Your intentionally being obtuse in not conceding to my point that blanket statements regarding suitability of a caliber are not helpful.
223 is also good for deer, within
reason as is 22-250 and 22LR, if you sneak up and put one behind the ear.
All calibers will kill a deer, it's the details that matter.
Only at certain distances, you keep leaving out that detail.I’m not being obtuse at all. The fact of the matter is you have no parameters. All you can do is tell me to look in a book. The fact of the matter is, you can kill deer with just about any bullet in any legal barrel length you want to use. Heck I’ve killed big game with the 55gr ballistic tip in the 243 exiting the muzzle at 4000 fps. It worked decisively.
What cartridge has infinite distance?Only at certain distances, you keep leaving out that detail.
270 if I believe half the stories over the gun counter. What cartridge has infinite distance?
Exactly......What cartridge has infinite distance?
Only 400 or so. Clearly needs to be said, a limit like that hahaExactly......
When people say 243 is good for deer, the statement needs to be completed with " out to ### yards"
Bingo again....."some deer"I bet at 350 yards where its "only" going 2550 fps it kills the heck out of some deer. That's practically 100 yards from a short 223 barrel. It'll be even less splashy than up close but still dramatic.
