To continue the momentum of sxs discussions.....

Wondering how many folks on this Forum have used/still use the model(s)?

I've found those discontinued sxs models to be very well finished and well balanced ......seldom visible on the Used Gun racks.

I own a couple used ones that I acquired over the recent past years.......both have pistol grips, SST and chambered for 2 3/4 inch shells - a 626E with fixed chokes (the left tube surprisingly being IC and right a Mod), the other a 626 Onyx with screw-in chokes and semi-beavertail forend (but nice nevertheless:)). The heft/balance caters very well to Wingshooting although I haven't used those for Waterfowl so far.

Came across some old images of my 626E.....for a 20+ yr old 12ga......IMHO, I've found the workmanship not too far off from the current 470/471 models (please don't pay attention to those swivels :) ):

IMHO, the 626 are really nice guns, but pale in comparison to the 470/471 when it comes to balance and pointability.

Starting from $4k and up they had better be. I have been considering a 20ga 471 with DT/straight stock for a while.....just can't yet convince myself as to why I would need to spend on a nice sxs simply to crash through the bushes for Grouse or Woodcock :)

Upland hunting perspective (read in Ontario), personally, I find that it is quite low profile to really justify owning a variety of quality guns.

Ahsan, there are deals to be found on the 470's. For example, Gobles is selling this NIB special order 12-gauge with double triggers & English stock (special order) for $2900 (reduced from the original list price of over $4K!)

Actually, that sxs has surfaced a few times over the past months on Gobles site :) If memory serves, the bbls are choked F/F therefore one would have to spend around $300 to have those reamed (Precision Arms, ON rate being quoted here for lack of more info.....believe not all gunsmiths have the machinery to work on chromelined bores). For that kind of expense overall, one may be better justified in acquiring one of the used 470 20ga listed (as new/mint) for $3400 at a couple of gunshops as I write.....

I found the same thing with the 471's, the only deals to be had are on guns with crappy choked barrels M/F, F/F.

$300 to ream chokes on a double . Who's the Smith Pietro Beretta? $80-$100 is usually a pretty standard price. That's for both barrels. :)

Sounds like that gun was special ordered, English stock. But why would anyone want it choked F/F doesen't make any sense

Ahsan, I just now saw the pic you posted of your 626E. It's a real beauty.

What length are the barrels (I'm guessing 26")?
