As the title says, whats your favorite or preferred pistol shooting stance??? And why?? Myself, I've mostly shot squared to the target ( isoceles??) but noticed weaver seems almost more natural. Paper doesnt shoot back, so it can't be all that bad for me! So what say you.

isoceles:D find works the best for me . Thats right paper dont shoot back but why you want to shoot from a bad stance when there better ones to use

Weaver; for two reasons. First is the 'push-pull' stability you get when you push forward with your right hand and backwards with your left. Not a gorilla grip; more like a firm handshake. Second is a bladed (Weaver) stance in which you are approx. 45 degrees off center to your target means less of your center mass for the bad guy to aim at.

Law Enforcement is going away from this. While it's less of a target, it exposes the underarm, where no body armor is protecting the officer.

+1 to Rob E. It's the most popular amongst the pro shooters too.

As everyone who gets the frontsite emails know, modified weaver, is a good choice.

I use it, in my own self taught, non-scientologist way.

I agree - Modified Weaver! Allows for rapid target alightment, stable shooting position and I find that the arm position allows for body to naturally soak up recoil with a minimum disruption of body position.

Plus I lean forward a little from the hips when I shoot - I try to have a "line" from my shooting hand to my right foot.... Hard to picture... but it works!

Until I have a moustache like that I will never be as cool as that guy.

Yup. The Weaver is a stance based on tension, which is not a repeatable skill (mechanically speaking) from day to day and minute to minute depending on your mental and/or physical state. The Centered (neutralized) shooting platform keys to the body's actual center, so it can be used for frighteningly fast target acquisition, since the sights need only be used only for a flash confirmation...if at all.

+3, what he said...

+1 to RElliot. though I call it modified isosceles. faster, more stable, allows for better control of the gun, better for multiple target acquisition, makes preparing to move easier etc etc etc. Weaver or modified weaver is not being taught at all by any of the forward thinking military or law enforcement agencies. it has zero advantage over a modified isosceles stance.
