Someone here said it already, the issue is supply and demand.
I’ve been waiting for over a year to buy a Marlin SBL 45-70 from a retailer. I’m on every single waitlist for it around the country. None have turned up. I see them consistently listed for $1000 over retail online. I refuse to pay that price so I'm stuck waiting.
The Type 81M fixed stock was available for about 24 hours from TI earlier this year. I missed getting one by minutes before they sold out. Looking online on GP they were instantly listed for $500 or more above retail, probably even before the person took possession.
It's a situation for sure but there are deals to be had as well. A friend of mine introduced me to online auctions, KOS has a decent one. I haven't had insane success but I've found rifles for reasonable prices that way.
My conclusion: if time is a factor then I pay the markup, if not then I wait.
Did OIF provide guidance on what may be legal / not legal on importing ?I don't know if you've considered it already, but importing one is pretty easy. I detailed my experience here:

The subject never came up, not that i can remember. The conversation started with prophet river, and they act as the importer, so my guess would be that they would cover any legal questions.Did OIF provide guidance on what may be legal / not legal on importing ?
With some firearms it should be easy to figure out, but with others - especially ones not usually found in Canada - it might be a guessing game.
I have totally noticed the same thing, I have found some hidden gems here or there, but like its 1-2 good picks in a sea of over priced / scammy looking posts. Then again I have noticed that in the used market for other stuff too.I just got my PAL this year so I am pretty new to the used gun market.
But I have seen some prices which i find quite absurd.
People are asking for almost new prices for used guns...
I just bought myself an a400 xtreme plus and I am looking to get my hand on a Benelli inertia or another a400 for a friend.
I mean some SBE2 are selling for more than SBE3 and some a400 xtreme are more expensive than a400 xtreme plus?
What gives? Anyone with more experience can explain to me how the used gun market works?
Hey thanks for the link and the really detailed thread. It seems to me the ads on GP might actually be somewhat fair given the extra fees to import.I don't know if you've considered it already, but importing one is pretty easy. I detailed my experience here:

Gun Post has been good to me, but you need to follow your gut instinct.Gun post is sketchy. I've bought 2 guns from GP and got a bad deal (not as described) for both. I've bought lots on CGN and it's always been a good honest deal. GP has a lot of listing's but I wouldn't say it's better then Gun nuts. I for one wouldn't buy another firearm from there.....fool me twice is good enough
This!Gun Post has been good to me, but you need to follow your gut instinct.
Also need to remember CGN is first and foremost a discussion forum, always has been and is promoted as such.
I bought a Marlin 1895CB in about 2007 for $600. Never particularly liked it and sold it about 8 years ago for $1200. Super quick sale made me feel like I had probably underpriced it.I’ve been waiting for over a year to buy a Marlin SBL 45-70 from a retailer. I’m on every single waitlist for it around the country.
