Well, my moose group was unsuccessful this year (WMU 2 in Ontario) so some of us are talking about doing a hog hunt in the USA. Ideally within a 12 hour drive from Detroit MI / Windsor ON. Our goal would be to bring back butchered meat for the freezer - we don't care about hogzilla or the big beasts - just food.
Asking if anyone has experience, recommendations, etc. Did a bit of internet searching and found a few places but having never hunted with an "outfitter" or paying someone to allow me to hunt their properties, I'd love some stories, what to do, what not to do, etc.
Our "pie in the sky" plan would be for 2-4 of us to drive down in a pickup truck, hunt hogs for 2 days (no idea if this is reasonable), then drive home (so a 4 day trip). Would be fine to stay on-site, or even a local hotel. I already have a Form 6NIA for hunting in the USA. I assume we'd pay the place to butcher hogs for us, and we'd shoot a few of the small to medium pigs as I've read that the bigger they are, the worst they taste. We'd bring coolers, and buy ice to keep the processed meat cold. Based on my research and experience deer hunting in Michigan, I can bring processed packaged meat back into Canada.
Thoughts? Stories?
