First Hunting Pump

Thank you everyone! Specially Suther for clarifying how the slugs work. During my PAL training, I was told to never shoot slugs out of anything with a choke or the gun will blow up. Maybe they meant to say sabot slugs.

I think the consensus is that a very old (80s, 90s) well-kept Remington is better than anything new. The second best option is a new Mossberg 500 like the one on Cabelas.

Most slugs will safely go thru a full choke. Sabots can as well but you won't hit what you're aiming at. They tumble instantly and go off on random directions.
I use brenneke gold slugs that are for only rifled barrels but most others can safely be used in smoothbores.
Sabots are for rifled barrels only

I have some guns that have tighter chokes and shoot very well with challenger slugs. Other guns with more open chokes shoot better. The only way to know if to try it

While I agree the browning Bps is prettier in the wood versions they are overly long in the receiver. I do still own a bps and enjoy it. But I also own 2 Mossberg 535s. An Ithaca 37. Model 12. SW version of the 870. Beretta 151. Mav88 and a Canuck regulator. Who ever said you'll buy multiple brands is likely correct

Now that I think of it, I had for a while a M12 Skeet that was kind of nice for chasing birds...

The Gun Nut

- 80s and 90s gun aren't exactly old guns ;)

Some guys who teach PAL courses (and hunting courses) have some pretty dumb things to say that aren't part of the curriculum...

My bad! I'm a comp science researcher, so I call things old few months after release. Now something older than myself? That'd be very old haha

Didn't mean to offend anybody from this great gun community.

I actually talked to a friend of mine who is a gun collector and he said he might have some 870s and wingmasters to sell.
He is in Alberta antelope hunting right now, but will be back soon.

Thanks again for your great advice everyone!
