I just picked one up. Here is a couple photos: (only the first two photos are the actual rifle)

It is missing the rear sight protector but has the rear sight with windage.

Left side has a cut out near the safety with two threaded holes in the receiver. Is this Bubba's work?
You can just make it out in this picture.

It doesn't have a magazine shell, would this be the correct one to get?

It has this type of cocking piece, is this incorrect? Is this for No4's only?

It has no stamp like this on the bolt head, but is definitely for a .22LR because the firing pin is offset and it has the oversize extractor.

The markings are similar to this one except it says:

G.R.
ENFIELD
1914
Sht'22
IV

There is no star which I find odd.

Since it has those two holes you must have one of these.

I have one too! Does yours have the Parkerrifled insert in the barrel, that you can see looking at the muzzle?

The mag is just a shell with no .22 on it. However, the Cno7 .22 mag may well fit in and it's nice, it has that little ramp to put the rounds on. I put one in my Sht22 before. Some Sht 22 mags do have .22 on them, that might be correct.

The cocking piece can be correct, lots of SMLE's have that later style cocking piece.

No * just means made before that date. Does yours have the mag cutout slot?

Mine is BSA commercial, no No 2 Mk IV or anything on it. The bolt head just has U on it.

Is yours set up for a rear sight protector? Is the screw, nut and spring in there? I have an extra rear sight protector I'd donate if you want to pay for shipping.

These are a very nice rifle, you can spend all afternoon shooting an Enfield for nothing!

I have been searching and searching for a picture of a sight that would fit in that spot, I have never seen an aperture sight like that before! Very odd.

Yes it's a Parkerifled barrel. It does have a mag cutoff slot, but blocked by the stock. In all the No2 MkIV* pictures I've seen on the net so far they all have been stamped "IV *" so I figured that was part of the nomenclature, as in No2 MkIV*. But that one at Zefarm isn't even stamped Sht '22. It has no Parker Hale stamps on it anywhere like the Zefarm one does.

And unfortunately, it has no parts for the rear site protector.

Best bet- Springfield Sporters, those parts'll be cheap. Maybe they can also provide the mag shell with 22 on it?
Both of our rifles have had that rear sight removed...I suspect it's 'cus they are so fugly and crude. Mine also has the SMLE rear sight with windage adjustment.

Another Grail!

Oh, that IS a most interesting thread!
Thanks, guys! Cantom, you never fail to impress me every time.
That kind of Enfield rifle is one I have been looking for since a long time.
PP.:)

I also have a .22 Enfield with same backsight. They are a bit crude and do not seem to have been made by one of the big maufacturers such as Parker Hale. I am guessing that a gun club or gun smith maufactured a batch of them which is why they turn up from time to time.

Well if anyone has a spare one kicking around... :p I'm happy to know it wasn't Bubba tinkering again.

Someone changed out the forend on my rifle, it doesn't have the cutaway for that sight, but the two holes are there in the receiver. I would have thought those sights were made by Parker Hale, as the rifle was stamped with Parker Hale wasn't it?

Pepere- I bought it on the EE a few months back. It's one of my favourites.
Note the .22 BNP proof.
