Replacment stock and trigger for stevens 200

Would Boyds ship to Canada? is my first question.
Also are they a good company to deal with?
Thinking about replacing the stock on a stevens 200 and getting a better trigger.
What stock would fit a 200? My guess is some kind of Savage?
What trigger would you get?

why would someone dump money into a turd? for the cost of a laminate stock and a good trigger you could buy a Savage with a accutrigger and laminated stock
 
Sharp Shooter Supplies has the old style competition trigger that fits the Stevens 200. It's listed at 85USD and shipping was only around 11USD to Edmonton, Alberta. With the Loonie at 101.5USD total comes in slightly less today.

I understand this sentiment,

But for those of us on a budget and whom like to work on firearms......

Its great fun to buy the base model and add on over time.

Yes, boyds will ship to Canada. But the stock has to be under $100.00. Warning though, Boyds is ridiculously slow. Took me 5 months to get my stock shipped.

The SSS trigger works very well.

I have both a Boyd's stock (target varminter, not currently in production) and a SSS trigger on my Savage. Worthwhile upgrades IMO.

True, I needed a 7-08 right away and would have liked a Savage Classic but none around so I got the Stevens and a SSS trigger which BTW is way nicer than the Accu. I'm using this for hunter class silhouette this year and yea though the tupper-stock sucks, I don't think it's a hindrance for this kind of shooting.

........ but the SPS comes with a very good recoil pad as opposed to the brick attached to the back end of the Stevens.

Plus the fact that there is TONS of aftermarket stuff for 700s makes it a much better choice to tinker with down the road.

i like Remmys too, but there is nearly as much aftermarket stuff out there for the Savages as there is for the Remingtons. the design of the Savage makes much of it very easy to replace.

the way you say it you make the Savage sound like the Tikka with no aftermarket stuff available :runaway:
 
What isn't there available for the Steven / Savage? You can diy an new barrel, change the bolt handle to a couple of different styles, bolt face change calibres, recoil lug, trigger, stock, what's left aside from the receiver?

Just follow the EE for a couple of weeks and see how much Remington stuff comes for sale and compare it to the others.

I have nothing at all agin the Stevens and Savages, but there is alot aftermarket and take-off stuff FS out there for Rems.

so the after market means the 700 is a better rifle?????

the 700 and savage model 10 are comparable guns.

when savage made a rifle version they used there M10 action

when remington created a discount rifle they made a new fangled rifle with a list of problems

the savage is cheaper in most case's then the 700 and if you have a custemised savage it will stand out more compaired to the see of 700's you see and will do just as well f not better then the remingtons

does the after market mean the rifle is better no it just means the 700 is more of a filth whore then the savage

personaly i haven't had a chance to shoot a 700 but i have shot 2 savages and of differant styles and the trigger on both of them is wonderful crisp clean it was desinged as user ajustable and is delevered use ajustable with 1 tool and one screw

the remington 700 is supposedly ajustable but i've heard the screw heads have super glue in the heads so you can ajust them on your own

I didn't say that the Remington was better rifle than the Savage. I responded to the above statement from wcmd that if you were going to tinker with a rifle doing add-ons you would be "better of buying a Remington 700 SPS.".

What's your point? ....... When Remington made the SPS, they used the 40yr old 700 action. Nothing "new fangled" here. I've owned several with none of the problems you list at all. They're not pretty, but they all worked as they should.

FWI ...... The glue on the adjustment screws is for locking them in place, not for keeping the owner from adjusting the trigger. Any time I adjust a 700 trigger, I just pick off the locking glue with a fine screw driver and adjust away.

So .......... if you haven't even shot a 700, I could assume you have never owned one either. RIGHT? If so, how did you get to be such an expert on the problems related to owning a new fangled 700SPS?

I've owned several 700s and Savages with one Stevens thrown in. I personally think they are ALL good rifles. :)

I'm not sure, but I think when he was talking about crappy newfangled actions, he was referring to the 710 or the 770
