Kind of a weird take to compare high end or hand reloaded rounds VS the cheapest of the alternatives.....Pretty sure theres a $100 box of ammo in any calibre - doesnt mean its going to be good.

I just got my deer at 180y with a 308 and offhand shot on 7x. Funny enough, with the cheapest ammo as well since it groups sub moa in my ruger.
 
At the distances specified I'd take the 6.5 creed bigger bullet little more knock down but at that distance there is a mass of calibers that will do the job effectively one of the most fun cartridges I've played with lately is the 6mm creed really reaches out on steel sooo many to choose from and they al have there good and bad points lol

What extra cost? 308 hunting ammo isn't significantly cheaper than a lot of calibers. Maybe a few bucks a box if you're lucky. If you reload a lot of the calibers being discussed are CHEAPER to load than 308win due to using less powder and/or cheaper bullets (in a lot of cases heavier bullets cost more, so 6mm 100gr bullets are often cheaper than 150-180gr 30cal bullets.)

Also most of the cartridges being discussed are neither new nor obscure.
 
While both the 243 and the 6.5CM will kill deer out past 200 handsomely, I like my Roberts for deer only.
I also really like my 700 Classic in 7x57, shooting the 140 Accubond.
This year I took my 270 Winchester deer hunting, since shots can be on the longer side. Took my muley at
350 yards, using the 140 Accubond at just over 3000 fps MV. Dave.

I was commenting on the guy saying the cheapest 5.56 and 308 is sufficient for all game. I stated that premium bullets, or hand rolled,l rounds, should be used for Canada's largest game. Especially if it's a once in a lifetime hunt. The cheapest ammo is always going to be surplus, which most is not suitable for hunting. Nothing wrong with the cheapest off the shelf hunting ammo.
I also stated that for 200M and under for deer, basically any cartridge would suffice, as long as it's legal in your area of course.
