Issue with Barrett Mrad

Hey Guys

I'm wondering if someone might be able to help regarding an issue I had at the range today. Took out my Barrett Mrad and after the 3rd round it was extremely difficult to pull the bolt back to extract the fired round. Like it required a lot of force, it felt as if it was stuck. I've never experienced this with this rifle or the ammo. The ammo I used was the sellier and bellot 338 lapua. I have no idea why this is happening. Is this a lube issue? Ammo issue?

Could be a few things. Hot ammo, over pressure, dirty chamber maybe even flattened primers. I would measure fired casing and compare to unfired if you have the tools. Also clean the chamber very well and make sure there's no dirt or excessive oil when done. Chances are the S and B ammo is hot but check all above for sure.
 
The pressures don't look excessive.
No ejector marks. the outside edges of the primers don't look flattened except maybe the second from the left on the bottom row (maybe), no primer flow at the firing pin.
Maybe a good cleaning of the neck/throat area?
 
I feel pressure IS much higher then it should be.

You have a rough spot on your bolt face OR it is the hole where the ejector goes into. There is a mark almost circular on the base of the case.... through much of the lettering.

If you see a big burr on the bolt face, remove. If not, then it is the case smashing into the ejector hole and being marked.

Put up a pic of unfired ammo next to these fired cases. I think you will likely find the primers ARE flat.

The bolt face looks good so it will be a pressure issue... if you measure the INSIDE of the ejector hole (closest to the firing pin hole) and compare to that circular mark on the bottom of the case, I bet they are spot on.

If you push the ejector down and feel the corner of that hole, there is likely a rough spot or lip. The case is pounded into that area and the mark is put on the base when you cycle the bolt.

NOW, you can get the same thing with low pressure rds if there are burrs on the face that would cut the brass regardless but given the other parts about stiff to eject, leads me to think that ammo is not set up ideally for your rifle.

Try another factory ammo and see if the results are similar or go away. Then you can also chronograph the ammo and see what you are spitting the lead out at.

Are there any lines or shiney spots on the case body?

Are there any stretch marks around the bottom third of the case body?

If you need to pound out a fired case, I would stop using that ammo until you can confirm what you are playing with.

I’ve had the same issue with a lever action using Sellier and Bellot .308.

My gunsmith said it was overpressure rounds, and recommended they only be used in bolt actions.

I’m am saving them for use in an inexpensive single shot, break action, that won’t break my heart if it is damaged.
