Why does this rifle cost 3000$

I once mistaked this for the sig 556 on another forum (because of the name, no picture was posted) and everyone agreed that the 550 by swiss arms was by far a superior rifle.

What makes this rifle so superior?

I really wouldn't mind dropping 3K on this nice looking Non-restricted but I need more justification than looks.
What are they like for reliability?
What kind of steel is used on the barrel and recievers?
How does it shoot?
Mounting options?
Do the mounting options hold their POI?

I've always been interested in this rifle, but just need more justification if I'm going to buy it.

Also, they appear black on the website, but the ones I have seen here and at TSE are green, why are there no black ones?

thanks for your time!

Technically the sig 550 is prohibited. As far as I know, the black specials, classic green, etc. are a sig 550 upper on a sig 540 lower, in order to classify it as a different firearm, and make it legal.

Well design wise the 556 and the 550 are similar, but the QC and manufacturing on the 556 is crap from what I hear. I don't know much about material differences.

What I can tell you is that the 550 is around the same price here as if you were to buy it in switzerland. I can also tell you that those that have had a chance to handle and fire both, typically regard the 550 as the superior
firearm. The "real" sigs comes with a factory target, typically around 1.1 MOA. I don't think the 556 lives up the same level as accuracy.

The 556 (which is prohib) is an attempt to make a 550 (also prohib) for the American market at a price point Americans are willing to pay. The Black Special, and Classic Green are superior to the 556 and probably superior to the PE90 (semi auto 550) due to the differences built in for our market, (smaller production lots generally lead to higher QC) also the 550 was a simplified version of a previous variant.

That's cause the gas system. Reliablitiy comes at a price. I'd rather they make the gun heavy and reliable, than compromise and use plastic or weak alloys.

9 lbs isn't bad though. It's not like your going around holding it one handed in front by the pistol grip all day.. If your arms get tired, well, that's what the sling is for :slap:
