An acquaintance had asked me to find him a M70 Featherweight in .257 Roberts. I placed an add in the EE forum. Much to my surprise, I got a reply and an offer to purchase. I did so, as it fitted the description. When I told the supposed buyer that I had found his "dream rifle" he came up with a lame excuse that he couldn't buy it. So, here I am stuck with this rifle. So, I clean the bore, take it out to the range and guess what?.....I'm keeping that little beauty. She's shooting Remmy factory round nose 117gr. inside of 1.5" . Whoa...it's a keeper. I'm scoping it with my Swarovsky 3-9x32mm Ha#####. It's an absolutely geourgous rifle, spotless except for a couple of safe kisses that Jimbow47 told me about in the first place. I'm due for an antelope draw this year...perfect. So, I'm the proud new owner of an M70 FW XTR in .257 Roberts.....that shoots like a darn.....:D

Sounds like a great little rifle, perfect for speed goats! I wanna see some pics

Might be a while before I get out to your place to shoot that sucker :sniper:

I had one of those, shot many deer with it. I still miss it. Was talked out of it by my brother in law. He's since left my sister but the consolation is that my nephew shot his first deer with that rifle, under my guidance. It's in good hands now.

You are going to love that caliber. It's very effective on deer, fun to shoot (very low recoil) and comes with much kewl factor.

Nice. I had a chance once to buy a .257 FW, and never thought anything about it. In fact, I even grunted a thing or two bad about the cartridge. But these days I have a whole new respect for it. Beautiful rifle, scope and cartridge. Enjoy.

PS. What zone you applying for?

The 257R is like alot of other older calibers that are improved greatly by handloading. Factory loads are low pressure and don't live up to potential.

Not much can be said against it as long as it is used on the game it was intended for.

Dave, 100gr TSX is exactly what I had in mind. Consider it done.

Pharaoh, I believe that still Ruger chambers .257Rob, seems to me I saw it in the Russel catalogue. Zone 152 BTW.

Tod, I'm taking my next elk with the turdy turdy. :D

I'm going to go outside and get some nice pics where the lighting is great. After, all we're expecting +12 here today....;) It's play time.

According to the calendar...yes. There's a bit of snow in the low areas like ditches, along fence lines etc. Otherwise, it's georgous. Give me a few minutes, I'll have a picture up. :D

Snow...................gorgeous.

You are taking the piss !

That is an absolutely beautiful rifle...I have long adored the model 70 Feathweights myself. Thank goodness for unreliable gun buyers!

i really like the featherweight stock. the scrollwork on the checkering and the perfectly executed schnabel forend just look real classy, IMO.

im not a huge fan of the M70 itself but i would buy one just for the stock :)

nice rifle gitr.

MBP, you are correct about that stock, and the Model 70 action does not do much for me either...........however the proof is in the firing.
