I was driving on Hwy 2 south of Calgary and something caught my eye on the side of the road. That distinct mix of brown and red... I know nothing else that could create that small color pattern. Indeed, I am now sure I spotted... one of the first ....gopher road kills of the spring...

Oh it won't be too long now... 10 and 11 degrees this weekend, the ground must be thawing nicely and the enemy gopher army will leap from their trenches in wave after wave of... eating and sunning themselves, to which they must and will be met with the repeated and poorly aimed crack of my .22 and .223. :sniper:

Soon my lovely's... soon... :evil:

Yup, i've seen some as well, need to get busy and reload some more reduced velocity .223 loads that worked so well last year.
 
Yup, I also can confirm.....
I was heading down 43rd yesterday just north of 5th ave there was a red and brown spot in my lane. Me thinks I am gonna have to make a better effort to get out this summer and pop some gophers:dancingbanana:, it's been a few years:(
 
Almost got my first gopher roadkill yesterday just south of coaldale, missed the little rat by just inches!!

Boy oh boy, my truck woulda turned it to paste!!

Counted about 20 of them as I was roaming about....almost time to go shooting!
 
Wheres a good place to find those little buggers around Medicine Hat? I haven't been here that long and don't know any good places to go.

Time to get the 10/22 out of the safe.:dancingbanana:
 
I think we have a month or so yet here in Sask before we'll see them. Too much snow. I was working on my gopher gun last night. I need to pick up some taller mounts for the scope and some 25 round mags and I'll be ready. Maybe a laser for those close shots.:D

There's eight feet of GD snow on my front lawn!
If the pile gets any higher I don't think the blower will clear it.
The pile in my backyard is already too high for it.

Gopher hunting? ####! Fu*cking gopher best have his own snow blower.
 
My dog drew first blood this morning, he always does and brings it on the front porch. Ahhhh, spring is here and we turn the clocks ahead tomorow, life is good. Yeah, I heard that the weather is really kicking the crap outta you guys down east. Hang in there.

Go for a drive out in the country...see gophers, ask farmer if you can shoot em! Most will say yup!

Ask every farmer type you see if they have any they want obliterated, you will find em!
 
Last week I'm driving down 43rd street by Timmies. My buddies driving behind me. I see one standing on the shoulder and the truck just seemed to wander off to the side a bit. The gopher figured somthing wasn't quite right, squated down, then started to run as fast as his little legs would take him. Poor little fellow just couldn't go fast enough. My buddy said he couldn't figure out what I was doing till he saw a gumby doll rolling out from between my back tires. I saw him in the rear view mirroe, grinning from ear to ear. I'm going to burn, aren't I? :evil:
