.22 calibers are not recommended for deer( our Gov't). The caliber is quite capable to take them down, depending on the placement of the bullet. 75 gr hollow point with 22gr 3031.

Capable yes, good idea, IMO no.
federal vital shock 60 grain Nosler Partition would be one of the few I would be confident in aiming at a deer's vitals. I would also suggest keeping shots to moderate ranges of under 150 yards and do not try to go for shoulder shots
I wouldn't go any smaller than a 243 for deer. More over for the reason that I don't lose game! Rather have too much gun than not enough. I know in Ontario we have certain restrictions on cal etc when hunting big game. I'd be checking the regs for your province.
good advice but stay away from heavy for caliber match bullets which are designed for accuracy only and not expansion on impact

Barnes .224" TSX 53 grainers. My 22-250 won't stabilize the 62's and up. Interesting that most "deer clubs" in Europe only allow small calibre rifles such as 222 Rem. for shooting deer. Likely smaller species such as roe deer and such.
"...in Ontario we have certain restrictions..." In Ontario, any centre fire is legal for deer. There are counties and townships that don't allow greater than .275 and .270(by the cartridge name), respectively, though.
If you use a .22 calibre rifle, make sure you have a suitable bullet. Varmint bullets used in most factory .223 ammo are not suitable for deer sized game.

Here in quebec, for big game, the regs says any centerfire of .243 diameter or greater
A funny thing is that it's forbiden to hunt deer with a 22-250, but it is very legal to hunt moose with 38 special

Still, in a 223, I think I'd like to try a Partition or X-bullet on a deer one day. I'm certain it could be done; in fact I'd wager that the reason why it's illegal in many places is to prevent folks from grabbing a box of cheap winchester whitebox varmint ammo and going for a deer. There's no reason I can think of why a 70 grain TSX out of my 8" twist tikka 223 couldn't put bambi in the freezer - though truth be told, I'd still prefer something with a little more room for error

I can't shoot deer with a 22-250, but I could with a 25-20.

In most of those .275 or less townships, you can only hunt deer with shotgun, muzzle loader or archery anyway.
In a survival situation or if you have a physical handicap that prevents you from using a more powerful firearm I guess it might be "OK". Otherwise despite all the arguments about shot placement etc I don't think an animal should have to suffer needlessly just to prove a point. I know it can be done and alot of deer have been killed with the 22 LR but my point is why bother. Just my opinion.
