Ruger Go Wild muzzle brake question

I’ve been looking at this model of Ruger American (centerfire version). Any members on here using one? Is the muzzle brake removable and are there options for a threaded cap? I like the idea of a brake for sighting in/bench shooting, but not so much for hunting.

Most “hunting” guns that come with brakes also include a cap. Not sure about this particular model though. But even if it didn’t you can buy a cap for like $25

You need to sight in with the brake removed, if you intend to hunt with the brake removed. Removing the brake resulted in a change in point of impact.pact of 3" at 100m with my rifle.

That sounds about right.

One shot with a braked rifle without hearing protection, can cause significant damage to your hearing

All the ruger Americans I’ve had that came with a brake also came with a cap. I have also had major poi change with and without the brake (about 2 inches low at 100 with the brake). But the brake is great for shooting off the bench getting it dialed right in. Then I pull the brake and put the cap on for final sight in before hunting.

If you sight in withbthe brake on, remove the brake and re install it, the POI will be slightly different

My 338win M77 Guide Gun came with a tread protector, break, and a weight/dummy brake (looks like the brake but no vent holes). I haven't tried it but the idea is that you can sight in with the brake then replace it with the weight/dummy brake and have no shift in the POI.

Just wanted to post an update, I did buy the Go Wild model, and it does not come with a thread protector. I put the barrel in a padded vise and was able to get the muzzle bake off. The threaded cap to one of my other Americans fits on there perfectly, so I’m happy about that. Now I just have to find time to get out and shoot it!!
