k98 ammo

Best to post a pic of your K98 and it's Receiver, if Norwegian .30-06, If Israeli 7.62, If German or RC 8mm...

Be aware they all started out as German 8mm and could be converted and reworked (Norway, Israel-stamped 7.62, etc) to other calibres. If RC it's 8mm.

k98

this one still has all the german markings (eagle wings, swastica) on the barrel and stock etc. I couldn't find any markings of any other kind on the rifle anywhere. As for pictures, I will be sure to post pics as soon as I dig my digital camera out of storage.

Still worth checking the chambering, instead of assuming default 8x57...

Is there a year and a makers code stamped on the top of the receiver?
ie: byf 44, ce 43, bnz 4, duv 1940, ......
Or is it scrubbed off by a milling maching?

Just a note: Be careful of the Norwegian rifle. Mine has "7.62" stamped near the muzzle. This DOES NOT mean 7.62x51 NATO. This stamping means just what it says - 7.62, which, at the time of the stamping meant that the rifle was chambered for 30-06.

7.62 NATO hadn't arrived on the scene yet.

Yeah, I know, I know..... everybody should know that, but this could save some grief and/or injury. Please take heed!!
