Is it a Maven now, not an SWFA, that all the cool kids are after?

Picked up some Speer 75gr Gold Dot ammo but never even got around to shooting it, bet it would make a great whitetail and up load.

If you have trouble with recoil off the bench forget shooting at game as you’re going to be too scared of your gun. The difficult part is getting off a perfect shot when on some kind of improvised rest, typically at a bad angle. Holding it lightly enough to make the round go where it’s supposed, even though you are about to get smacked after. Easier with smaller guns for sure.

Practice, a complete understanding of how recoil works, and what actually causes flinch to happen go a long ways in improving shooting capability from all positions. Be careful, as it would appear from your last sentence, that we somewhat agree. :oops: ;)

Same rings and 2.1 bro

But in reality here it's a KS Arms 6.5creedmoor with a Wildcat stock and SHV sitting in some unknown 30mm rings. Works for me, I can spot my shots and I don't need a big magnum to kill.

Was SWFA then NF now Maven but only 2.1 or Trijicon. Leupolds definitely are out because they don't hold zero.

Gold dots are the same as fusions right? I killed a wild board back in the day with some 62gr fusions out of the modern sporter.
 
I carry a M-70 featherweight in 243 loaded with Nosler 95 gr. ballistic tips or Partitions on the Ski Doo or Argo all winter for wolves. Have taken wolves and deer with it. It performs exceedingly well on both. One thing to keep in mind the 243 in my experience does not tolerate brush interfering with its intended flight path. If it does the bullets flight path will deviate substantially.

For larger folks like bear and moose I much prefer something heavier like my 30-06 or 300 H&H. Gives one a lot more latitude.

I’ve also killed a bunch of game with a 243. My brother has killed game with a 243 and the list goes on. Of course it works. I’ve killed big game with the 243 and 55gr ballistic tips going 4000 fps. Dramatic and very successful. But I’m not stupid enough not to see the difference a bigger bullet makes. Especially on larger game at goofy angles. When I hunt I hunt to kill something. Not to fart around with perfect shot angles, cute distances etc. shooting does at 1000 yards is fun. It isn’t hunting.

If you want to get into 22’s I can go put my hands on and photograph a 22 Savage High Power that was used to bounty hunt bears. To a significant degree.

You hunt with what you want. I’ll hunt with what I want. But the assertion that people aren’t recommending something because of lack of experience is not always true.

The .243 is perfect for deer if it is chambered in the 240 Weatherby! We have found the Barnes tsx/ttsx in the 80/85grainers to be very accurate deer killers out too 250 and at all angles. Deer have a tendency to run a bit (100m) and blood trails can be lacking. One of the Mark V lightweights would be sweet.
