Sauer 20 gauge date of manufacture by serial number is 1923 . Barrels are 25.5 inches with a vent rib and have no makers name.

Belgium proofs on the barrel flats, did Sauer farm out barrels ? I have never had barrels that ring in such a hi frequency as this one.

Sauer did use Belgian made and proofed barrels on occasion. The Belgian proofs don’t have as easy a date code as the Suhl proof house did. And I don’t have my proof book handy. Belgian date codes are a letter, usually poorly stamped and difficult to match to the date code chart. I’ll take a look later.

Belgian proof on barrels, Belgian view, smokeless proof and inspector mark on action, East German view mark and final proof - date 1965
Shotguns.se is a useful reference site for European proofmarks

That's more like it. My reservations about it were based on the shaping of the action. That's not what pre war, pre commie Sauer actions look like.

Great information . I see by the proof marks 1965 for the barrels, is receiver original to barrels
It's theoretically possible but unlikely. The Belgians were the largest producer of barrels in Europe and it's not at all uncoomon to find guns from other countries fitted with Belgian made and proofed barrels.
