In order to bring firearms into the US and to legally buy ammo there if you are not a resident, you must have a Form6 NIA from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF or ATF). Once approved, it's good for 1 year.
The best way to get the Form6NIA is with a hunting license. The Alaskan small game hunting license is cheap. Get your Alaska small game license here: https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/Store/
Buy a hunting license (any hunting license from any state is acceptable), fill in the Form6NIA and fax it and the hunting license to the number in the instructions that are at the end of the Form6NIA. Don't forget to sign them. They will e-mail you the approved form. They turned mine around in a few days this year (twice actually... I amended it and had to re-submit it).
If you're reloading just list the head stamp on the brass you use under ammo. You don't have to put everything in the form itself, you can include attachments. I just put "see attached" on the form and list all of my rifles I might compete with in every caliber I have barrels for them in and list all of the brands of brass I may use for it in an Excel sheet that I attach. Some are wildcats that can be made from different parent cases, so I list them all. Never know what you may be able to get these days... The form6NIA is good for a year from its approval date.
Here is the type-in version of the Form6NIA. Fill it out and save it. As long as it doesn't change, you can re-use it again next year.

Example of how I fill out my attached spreadsheet (since it doesn't all fit in the form):

If you win prizes that require export
If you win anything that requires export paperwork, these guys can help:

https://www.irunguns.us/page.php?name=import-process
They can handle the export. The match director or sponsor giving the prize may not know what to do if someone who is not a US citizen wins a rifle or an optic, etc... Just tell them that you have an exporter who is an FFL and that to them, it will be like dealing with any other FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee). You will have to cover the export cost.
