The outdoor life article mentions RCBS working on dies but it takes multiple attempts to size a single case. Definitely going to be interesting to see.One of the (minor?) talking points of this 7MM Backcountry is that it's a .30-06 diameter case and therefore increased mag capacity is an option vs competing magnum cartridges. Another was that apparently muzzle brakes become more effective as pressure goes up, which may be where the "lower recoil" claim is coming from. Edit: Since it burns faster burning powder and therefore less volume for the same velocity, there is less "ejecta" or powder being pushed out with the bullet and this should also reduce recoil. High techy
Also as far as reloading - I watched the Backfire video on it and he reports that they are working on getting reloading equipment available but it would not me "imminent"; in other words... don't hold your breath. Apparently sizing these cases may not be all that difficult because it will have very little material flow, unlike brass. The case won't stretch as far so you don't have to size it back down very far.
He mentioned a list of rifle manufacturers that are supposedly planning to chamber it, some of the bigger names were Savage, Christensen, Weatherby, Fierce, Gunwerks, among others. Will be interesting to watch.
Looks to me like a lot of hassle for the sake of a shorter barrel but if we could use cans here it might be a bigger deal.
Without a doubt. This new cartridge will surely cause a rise in blood pressure with some people.
It won’t actually.with pressures like that. I bet barrel life will be short.
Yes, the Nerve of them at Federal......Without a doubt.
I know of no other group of enthusiasts that piss and moan so loudly when new products are brought to market for the buying public to purchase of their own volition.
Those bastards at federal, how dare they offer a reloadable case with a safe working pressure of 80K!
Whats to discuss, you covered all the talking points....Steel-alloy cased (reloadable!), "magnum" level performance out of short barrels:

Probably of no interest to the fudds and likely not too popular up here what with the lack of suppressor options and what I can imagine will be costly ammunition. Discuss!
The rifle doesn't need to, the case does.I think I'll wait a few years to see how regular rifles handle 80k psi
There are several rifle manufacturing companies who are producing or going to be producing rifles for said cartridge.Forgive me if my understanding of physics is poor.
Could increasing the pressure of larger cases to 80k and using slower burning powders in these stronger cases produce some real lightning bolt cartridges? Let's set aside barrel life for a minute.
If this is the case, has anyone alerted weatherby?
Weatherby is on the list of manufacturers planning to chamber rifles in this new round so I'm not sure how they could say too much against it.There are several rifle manufacturing companies who are producing or going to be producing rifles for said cartridge.
I wonder how Weatherby is going to spin its 7mm Wby Magnums as being better ?
One article predicted 2000 rounds before a loss of accuracy... sounds generous to me but even a thousand rounds is beyond what 90% of shooters will put through one in a lifetime. What is the general consensus on barrel life?
