Well I finally had some down time between weekends at Meaford and got the glass work done on the chu wood.
To bring those who haven't seen my other posts up to speed, I am trying to accurize a stock Norc M14S ghetto style for under $600.
So far:
$60 for the B Square, and $40 for the glass and assorted bits. $45 for the Fitco 6-24X43 scope (I had it on my AR, we'll see if she can handle 308 lol). Add that to the $400 for the rifle and we are sitting at approx $545. Just spent $50 for a check piece, so I have $5 left!
Lets hope she shoots at least minute of heart/lung!
Sorry I didn't take blow by blow pics, but when I started I figured I would just be doing the routing today, then that took no time at all, as did the glass and paint. So what started as a single stage of this project turned into the completed item.
I routed a channel inside the front end, then glassed in a fiberglass re-enforcing rod to add stiffness and provide something solid for the rail to screw into. Then I glassed in the rest of the front end so the piston housing and the op rod guide were properly supported. Much dremmel sanding ensued, but I got it nicely bedded and all the play between the stock and the action/barrel is gone. No movement in any direction. Nice and tight without bending or torquing anything.
Then came the Krylon.
6 Coats of black and three coats of OD.
Next step is to get her out to the range to see how she shoots and get her ready for bounty 'yotes at my buddies house! Last time at the range, I was ringing the 8X10 inch steel plates at EESA at 100 meters with irons right outta the box.
Range report to follow!
