Scope decision on a 4-16 x 42

Are you set on the 42mm objective? I threw a 3-12 Burris Fullfield IV on a 22LR gopher gun, and it's surprisingly decent for what it cost. I've found Burris' lower end lines to be better than comparable Vortex, usually for less money. The 4-16x50 Fullfield IV is on for less than $500 at a couple places right now.
I put the Fullfield 1V 4-16x50 on a CZ 457 Varmint and absolutely love it. Way better quality than a Vortex, tracks perfectly.

And I forgot another 50mm scope, on my CZ-455 Lux SS. Again with Vortex Pro LOW rings, a bit more clearance with a sporter profile instead of the varmint on the B22-FV.

Man, how can you get so much clearance with that size objective and low rings? Must be the setup on my old Sako as I can barely get a 40 objective into my med rings to fit. Although I’m taking the word of another gun guy about them being medium rings. I took them off today and I would say they look like low rings to me. I’m not sure how to tell the difference though.

I should have mentioned the CZ-455 has a 0* rail that adds ca .25 or so. You'd have to look closely to see that in the pic. And the barrel is a sporter-taper. On my B-22 in Post-9, it came with Factory 'mounts' that only add ca 1/16" above the dovetail. and the B-22 has a Varmint barrel.

I think that temu has some ‘nicely priced’ leupolds, among others!

I am with the diamondback HP crew here.

The cabelas scopes no longer carry their once very good warranty.
Though not a fan of ‘sheet of paper’ clearance off of the barrel, closest to bore is definitely the best way to do it.

OP, have a chance to just go try them on a mock up? Sometimes the reticle, finish, adjustment knurls or some other small thing may help you decide.

You might want to check out the Athlon line of scopes, comparable to Vortex. I recently bought the Athlon Heras in 4-20x50 and am very happy with it. Wide variety of models and price ranges.

And RE Posts 27 & 29, even with the rail I had to 'file off' a bit of the Objective adjustment knurling because it was cutting my thumb when I cycled the bolt.CZ-455 Scope Filed Edge & Lux Stock.jpg
