Seeing if anyone has experience with both these in 7.62x39. Skipping the Gen 2 American as it’s just not available anywhere. Plan on mostly target at 100yrds. The CZ is a beauty but also 300-400 more.

I'll be the guy to mention a gun you didn't ask about. The Howa Mini action w/ med barrel in 7.62x39. Probably not as nice as the CZ but I like it better than the Ruger. It shoots very well, I've taken it out past 500 yards with surplus ammo on a 12" plate and it performed quite well (again something you didn't ask about)

I read about those but have never held one and hard to find someone who has them locally in stock to look at. I’ll have to dig more into them. Nice looking for sure. No problem you brought it up.. maybe I’m just not giving it a chance.

Ruger American mags are the worst…. If you don’t want to curse at your rifle, buy anything else. The cz’s do appear to be a solid option, especially with their lifetime barrel warranty.

Shame about the Cz 527.

One big thing people miss about the Ruger is you can change the mag well with one for a 223 rar or upgrade the entire stock and run 10 round 7.62x39 xcr mags. I hate proprietary magazines

Compared to the Cz 600 the Ruger has a pretty rough finish. Trigger is decent though

The ranch model he asked about don’t use the standard proprietary magazines. Either ar mags or mini 30 for the 7.62x39 but like I said above you can easily convert the 7.62x39 to use ar mags

I own and love both rifles. One thing about the ruger american is you can use 10 round 7.62x39 AR mags (at least for now...) depending on your stock (i bought a cheap used AR mag stock for 50 bucks). Thats a bonus for me personally. I've found their actual performance to be totally identical if im being honest. The CZ is nice but again, if performance is your primary concern no reason to not go with the ruger. If you want a smoother action and nicer fit and finish and dont mind paying a few hundred extra, get the CZ. Cant go wrong with either in my book (i couldn't decide so bought both lol)

Awesome. Thanks for all the input. I ended up buying the Ruger… $500 less after taxes. I’ll save the CZ for another time when I upgrade my 30-06. Just couldn’t swallow the difference in cost to go plinking. Already ordered 2nd mag and muzzle brake. Just trying to pick out a scope now.

I am a huge CZ fan, but another plus of the Ruger is that you can upgrade the stock easily and chuck on something like an MDT, CZ 600 is much more limited.

doyou like to tinekr and customize?
haev a ruger ranch in 762x39, have done some stuff to make it nicer, and with the XCR mags it is great

If I was going to buy a rifle that woudl stay the way it started, the CZ is a much better rifle

Are you aware of the fact that CZ initiated a recall on all the bolt-action CZ 600 rifles: "Česká zbrojovka (“CZ”) has recently learned of a potential safety issue with the CZ 600 bolt-action rifles. CZ is voluntarily initiating a recall of these rifles in order to protect the safety of its customers because of the potential for failure if the barrel is not installed correctly" (https://www.czub.cz/en/support-recall/)?
I'm not sure how serious is this recall but just something to be aware of. I was also planning to buy a CZ 600 Alpha but now I'm at the cross-road.

I think this is from when they were first released and there was an issue with the DIY barrel swap feature that the rifle was designed around. My impression is that this is all good, it is just that they no longer have the quick barrel swap capability, due to the potential to mess it up - but I do not know for sure.

I can’t imagine they would be permitted to sell a recalled item… likely anything on the shelves now is good.

Hang on, you bought a muzzel brake for a 7.62x39?
