What can anyone tell me about a K43, marked:

K43 ac 44

It also has a 4 digit serial number

I have field stripped it, and it looks as though it is all matching (no electropenciling)

The mag is marked:

aye WaA843 G43

It was made at the Walther factory in the later part of '44 when they changed the designation fron "G43" to "K43" for no reason other than Hitler thought it sounded better and matched the deisgnation fo the "K98".

If you give the serial number, or at least the letter prefix it would be possible to narrow it down to the month it was made.

DOesn't sound like it's a refurb, since there is no electropenciling, although if you break down the bolt you might find an electropencilled serial number on the lockign lugs, and possibly on the gas valve as well, both places were electropenciled by the Germans at the factory.

Now post some pics, these rifles are beauties.

Here are a few of the pics tree mugger took of his K43:

Looks like you've got an original K43, despite the blurriness of the markings.
If it's all original you should find Eagle/359 WaA's on the small parts, save for the rear receiver cover/bolt housing thing wich should have WaA 44.

It's missing the cleaning rod and sight hood, but is actually one of the less common "panel cut" style receivers, with the milled out panel for the manufacturer and date stamps, the vast majority of receivers were marked like mine:

CHeck the side of the stock and under the wrist for the WaA 359 and serial number.

No stamping on the stock (laminate)...eagle 359 on the bolt carrier, the bottom of the sight ramp, and the mag release.

There is also a '2' on the top of the rear sight, just in front of the notch

Yes, if I saw one of these for sale at a ridicolously low price, I would buy it...:)

And I'd probably by it at a fair price too.

Yes, I am jealous....

They really are beautis. Their battlefield reputation is less than stellar, and their overpowered gas system is beyond obsolete. But they're just goregeous pieces of machinery and history.

Tree mugger, if you decide to shoot the rifle it would be wise to pick up a "shooter's kit" from apheltor in the states, it replaces the stock gas system with one new made and of a better design. The rifle functions as it should, is not permanatly or aesthetically altered at all, and it tends to save the serial numbered gas valve which had a tendency to shoot itself to pieces eventually.

ONce you've got all that, you're ready to rock... all you need then is a:
