digin through the junk box looking for some other parts and found this. havent seen one before, fits the #4 rifle obviously. anyone had any experiance using one? looks in good shape and i dunno how it got in the junk box

The 8/53 is an attachment that fits a standard Mk. I rear sight. Remove the screw on the back side above the aperture to detach it.
Gives windage adjustment. Elevation is in 1 minute clicks. A standard British aperture should fit - something like a Parker Hale 6-hole eyepiece would be typical.

A PH4 is a complete target sight, not a conversion/attachment like the 8/53. It is a direct replacement for the service sight. It does fold, the way the service sight does. I believe the PH4 preceded the PH5C, which was much more popular and is much more common than the PH4.

yes I seem to recall that the PH4 I have is a much beefier ladder then the one above.


looking at the above sight is looks like it just screws on to the regular sight using the peep hole as the screw hole,

Didn't the C7 22lr Enfields have a sight like that?

The C No. 7 .22 rifles had their own unique pattern of rear sight. The pivot screw assembly also provided windage adjustment. Elevation appropriate for .22 rimfire.
If one were making up a .22 conversion of a No. 4 .303, the Mk. I sight with 8/53 attachment would be an excellent sight choice.

I have one of these lovely sights. Easy to mount and use. The diopter on it is the Parker PH59. Offers six aperture sizes, as Tiriaq alluded to.
