Hi,Hello all
i am pretty a newbie to here. looking to get into ipsc shooting disciplines. Can anyone recommend some starting gear? best way to learn the necessary skills? YouTube or other sources ?any help is greatly appreciated.
Have you looked at the Mossberg JM pro it's set up for this kind of fast reloading.
I have the field model for clay sports and am very happy with it.
Thank you for sharing the info. I have had my pal for about a year now but never got into competitive or dynamic type shooting. Picked up a Benelli nova speed a few days ago that i am planning to use for trap and hopefully setup as a competition gun . For a shell carrier i had one of my friends print me one using his 3d printer. hopefully i can get an idea of what i will be looking at if i decided to go for a name brand caddy. If you are brand new to guns, then spend some time shooting and getting to know your guns. If you are already a competent and safe shooter and feel ready to compete, first step is to get your Black Badge qualification. That is a prerequisite to shoot IPSC in Canada in any discipline. Check with your province’s IPSC section online about Black Badge courses in your area…alternatively, if your club is affiliated with IPSC, check with your IPSC Rep or just show up at a match or practice and ask how to participate…Hopefully your club calendar lists these events.
Next is gear…any pump or semi shotgun will do for starting out. If you want to be competitive, for semi’s the Beretta 1301 or Benelli M2 SP are my faves. The M2 SP is IPSC ready out of the box, you will probably want to do some mods on the 1301. As for pump, the Benelli Nova Speed was specifically designed for IPSC and is an awesome gun for competition. As for shell caddies, lots of options there but remember for IPSC, chest rigs and bandoliers are not allowed. Caddies and carriers must be at waist level so a good belt and whatever caddie system you prefer or can afford. I started with Safariland 6 ups, later moved to Invictus Practical 8’s and now use Magload Nexus 32. These are vastly different price points so you want to be prudent…for starting out, the Invictus are a good mid range option - you can always upgrade later.
Like everything with guns, competitive shooting can be a rabbit hole…While I am always encouraged and excited to see new shooters at our Black Badge courses and IPSC and 3 Gun matches, I always caution it’s best to try the sport with as much gear as you have already as possible rather than wait until your gear is perfect…Take it from those of us who have been doing this for many years…you will always be looking for that next piece of kit to make your setup perfect.
Just jump in and enjoy the ride…
personally i absolutely love pump action shotguns. i do an M3K which has been an amazing gun to shoot but pump has its own feelHave you looked at the Mossberg JM pro it's set up for this kind of fast reloading.

Thank you . My club does have have IPSC matches but everything revolves around handguns which thanks to Justinder is not an option for me. hopefully in the next year or so something will change. until then i am putting my time and energy in shotgun trainingFirst off welcome to the CGN from southern Ontario.
Was going to get into IPSC in my younger days but never did, does your club offer black badge courses or shoot IPSC matches?
Might want to check out what members use and go from there.
But I'm sure someone will chim in with some advice, good luck and enjoy the shooting sports.

I did reach out to some of the course instructors in my area but didn't get a clear answer if they specifically deal in handgun disciplines or shotgun is just part part of 3 or 2 gun styles.
Thanks again

We shoot some Two Gun events at Chilliwack Fish and Game that you might enjoy. You are welcome to come out and have a look, watch an event and see if you are interested. Our next event is on Saturday February 15th, we start around 8:30am with setup etc and start shooting at 9am. We usually shoot shotgun/pistol but we are tweaking it this year and will probably allow legal carbines/.22 rifles as a substitute for pistols for those that don’t have handguns. You are more than welcome to tag along with my squad and have a look if you wantFraser valley BC

Yeah. Hopefully someone will think about us poor folks with no small pew pewsI think it is an interesting problem that it is very difficult for someone who does not already own a pistol to complete a Black Badge course and that the Black Badge course is a requirement for IPSC Shotgun. I wonder if participation would increase if there was Shotguns Black Badge course?
lol, there has been a lot of talk in the competition community about “ lending” pistols during events to those that don’t have them. Personally, I would have no problem lending one to someone in my squad for the day. Most of us have numerous holsters, mag carriers etc so it wouldn’t be out of the question to set someone up for a day of shootingYeah. This is something that absolutely love about the gun community. My first 22nrl match i had a semi auto rifle with me and no idea what i was doing. I was surprised how many people offered me their rifles to try and see what I wanted to buy or build. I expect we will find lot of kind people like yourself during matches. However problem starts at the black badge courses. No pistol for a course means no certification.lol, there has been a lot of talk in the competition community about “ lending” pistols during events to those that don’t have them. Fortunately, you don’t need a Black Badge to shoot 2Gun or IDPA( similar to IPSC) at Chilliwack or Mission. In the Fraser Valley, there is also dssmatch( Dynamic Shooting Sports) who run 2 and 3 Gun matches. They offer their CASE course, a one day, inexpensive course to show competency, then you can shoot their events, so there are lots of options without having to lay out a pile of cash on a Black Badge course. That being said, it’s never a bad idea to take the Black Badge course if possible. This is something that absolutely love about the gun community. I guess it’s my fault. Wasn’t utilizing all me resources properlyFortunately, you don’t need a Black Badge to shoot 2Gun or IDPA( similar to IPSC) at Chilliwack or Mission. There is also an IDPA event on February 1st, same 9am start, come out and have a look if you like. I believe because of the latest round of “ gun bans” they will be allowing non banned .22 rifles in the Pistol Caliber Carbine division(PCC) this year, so there are still a few rifle options available to use, such as the Ruger 10/22, Derya TM-22, the new 9mm Henry Homesteader etc.I guess it’s my fault. Wasn’t utilizing all me resources properly. Been going to chilliwack range for a year now.never looked at the calendar in detail about what’s happening around there.
