Thought this was reasonably well done, like he says, some folk will disagree, but, he fleshes his points out fairly well, he is a bit longwinded though. It's 20 vids, I'd recommend #2, 18, 19 to keep it reasonably short. Compares the 280AI, 7RM, 7PRC and 28Nos---with a 160 CX, factory vs handloads, ballistics, barrel lives, most practical for folks out to 600yds
Mind sharing the load data? In really interested in the 7prc but wasn't sure those velocities were achievableI ve got a lot of 7 mm s - 284 W 280 REM 280AI 7 RM 7 PRC 7 STW 7-300 WBee
The 7 PRC is a much Improved 7 RM - better head spacing - better Coal with heavy bullets yet keeping powder capacity because of case design . Very little overbore so good barrel life etc etc etc !
Ballistically “ I “ think the 7 PRC is the BEST cartridge for its FPS And it’s COAL ! And bullet weight .
Lots of the other cartridges are Great too ,! Such as the 280 AI but it needs a long action with its long COAL with heavy mono bullets as do most of Big 7 s .
The. { my } 7 PRC will shoot 180s at 3000 168 s at 3150 160s at 3200 and they all fit in a Tikka T3X action and mag .
TH - I have a 284 W LW rifle in a short action and it’s Coal is limited to LW bullets 120-130 with any performance
Those LW bullets are not good for a LR hunting rifle .
Now in a Std or LA the 284 can perform pretty good but the 280 AI is still superior in ballistics .

Just watched this. For me and most Canucks we don't get to use the advantage of a suppressed short barrel so there's a bit of a lost advantage to the purpose of a high pressure cartridge. If you can't reload for it, that was a deal breaker for me. Clearly RCBS is making dies. I will question case life/annealing and the nature of steel in wet conditions. Just more food for the brain.

If you want think "out of the box"... mind the 7x64 brenneke was the most popular cartridge in Europe for a very very long time. It's like a 30-06 in .284 caliber. With new bullets, new powders, could be interesting. I'm not a big fan of new cartridges (often more powder for announced more "performance")

I doubt that resurrecting an old Euro cartridge is realistic for a new one and done... Times are changing... I remember buying leaded gas too... But some rifles can't run unleaded....If you want think "out of the box"... mind the 7x64 brenneke was the most popular cartridge in Europe for a very very long time. It's like a 30-06 in .284 caliber. With new bullets, new powders, could be interesting. I'm not a big fan of new cartridges (often more powder for announced more "performance")
No idea what would be the best overall as I’m just starting to play with 7mm’s again.
So I bought a 7mm RM as a baseline but I haven’t fired it yet as I’m waiting on components, a Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe that had a stock just too pretty to say no too…
Before I did that though I started a custom project on a Sako 75 Finnlight with a fast twist 24” fluted 280AI K&S barrel. Currently at a stock makers having a black laminate with ebony tip and cap made and I’m really looking forward to seeing how this one turns out and shoots.
On the fence about rebarreling a FN98 I just got into 7x57 as well…
Only way to know what’s best for you is to try a few
