Hello all, my name is Josh and am building another F-Class rifle.

I am going to be ordering another Borden action soon. Curious on other thoughts of having the port on the same side as the bolt(LBLP)or having it on opposite side(LBRP), or having a dual port so you can feed or eject from either side(assuming ejector is removed)

I currently run left bolt right port. The right side gets busy with ammo, scorecard and spotting scope. So thinking of a left/left or a dual port that would be left bolt, right feed, left eject. Can always remove ejector and do everything from the left with the dual port. Not sure what the downsides of a dual port would be as I don't see many on the line.

Just curious on peoples thoughts or experience. Thanks

Just for context, you're left-handed?

I'm right-handed with a rifle that has bolt and port on that side, and it seems natural enough to pick up a round with my right hand, drop it in the port, push the bolt forward, and slide down to ready position by the trigger.

Yes I am a left shooter. I haven't had a left bolt left port yet.

I have right handed bench guns before as I didn't want to wait for lefties. Bad idea. Sold all but one

Got advice when buying my first fclass rifle that I should get left bolt right port. It is good just think dual or left/left would be better.

Safety point goes to left left as the port is opposite to shooter in the unlikely even something goes wrong with a round that is overcharged for instance

Building an fopen rifle. Darrell McLean is doing the stock for me for one of my actions now. He is doing cuttouts on both sides in case I want dual ports in the future and then just rebed the new action. Cartridge is a question mark. Have a 284 shehane and 7prcw now. Might build a 300wsm with the new action. I will order the action with 2 bolts

Interesting I’m shooting a std 284 now - don’t see many going to the Shehane anymore but lots going talking 7- PRCW now .
My buddy used to shoot a 300 Saum with 210 grers - great in the wind 💨 RJ

Lots of guys in the states shooting 300wsm. Lots in the states shooting the 7prcw. Lots of us Canadians have tried the prcw but only few have had success getting it to shoot over the life of the barrel. I haven't had any issues with it and both my barrels on my panda are hammers

Where are you ordering the Borden from? There used to be a few people bringing them in, but not anymore it seems.

Currently using KS arms barrels as I am in Edmonton and I think they shoot well. My prcw barrels are ibi barrels.

I've tried some American brands but now with the $$$ so bad and delays its tough to get barrels.

KS arms is done in 3-4 months. I think barrels are just like rolling dice, some hammers, some normal

For 7mm I shoot 4 groove 8.5 twist. Usually 31inch long

I’m on my first Benchmark 5 R 8.5 twist 32 “ it shoots Good - but I have a JC barrel 8.5 4 groove in the closet for the replacement. RJ

WHY KS and then IBI ?

I am KS and will be for the foreseeable future.

One of the smiths I use had some ibi so I said with would try 2. So far they work the same as KS. Shooting week and lots of Vbulls. I've found its usually the idiot behind the rifle that is the problem anyway lol

Here is a pic of how the IBI shoots. Had the same kind of groups with KS barrels. Just don't have a pic handy. That's a 16 shot 4.14inch group at 1000 yards. The gun did its work

I've been away from the competitive side of the sport for too long! I used to think right bolt, left port was just weird. Now dual ports has my head spinning.
