Then how can I make sure the seller has an export permit, or how do I even know that the merchandise in question requires an export permit ?

Ok..........read my post above yours again...............you need to apply for and recieve a Canadian Import permit from the Canadian Government to send to the seller so he can apply for the U.S. Export permit.

Most if not all E-Bay sellers in the U.S. won't do this as it is a hassle, time consumming, and they want a quick and painless sale..............Until the Feds catch them..............then it gets quite painful........

To see what merchandise requires Export permits, contact the following U.S. Agencies:

-U.S. Commerce Dept for Shotguns,Shotgun parts/accessories, Firearms Optics, sights, and mounts.

-U.S. State Dept for most anything else firearm related.

It is up to the individual to do the research themselves and find out what is required to legally export items out of the U.S.

Note to All: If you are not going to abide by the Export regulations of Canada and The U.S., do not post anything on this site about your illegal endeavors...............

SKBY, I have to ask, why are we going through this for the 1ooth time? The rules are simple, some people just don't want to accept them or abide by them.

The topic is simple, buying a scope off of Ebay. If you do not have the proper paperwork in place you risk loosing your money. If you are willing to take that risk, go for it (just don't post it here). I personally know two people who took the risk after my warnings and lost their money and the high end scope they ordered. They ended up with zilch, just a big hole in their wallet. I also know guys that have had no problems.

If you like gambling with your cash, have at er. (once again, just don't post it here)

Wrong
The rules are not that simple. We are lucky on this website with all the information available to us.
like everyone else I read the friggin sticky.
Then I looked into myself, the customs people said no paperwork was needed. When I talked to the seller he said no problem. The Broker even needed to call someone about it.

You asked. Your question was answered. Maybe someone else reading the thread will become enlightened, and the question won't need to be answered again.

Lets be nice here guys..............;)

It does get a but tiresome having to repeat the policies regulations of CGN and the Can/U.S. Governments, but in all honesty some of the Regulations are open to various interpretations/changes.............plus some people do give an honest effort in searching for the answers and just seem to miss finding them............

But on the other hand I have found a great many people are just too lazy to do their own research and want others to hand them all the answers...................or refuse to believe what they are told...........those are the ones that agitate me.........;)

If you have your heart set on ordering from Ebay, search out Eurooptics. Alex does it by the book and does not charge for getting the paperwork done as some others do. Pay by Money Order as he has a 4% charge for Credit Cards. You can also email him and get a better price list than his ebay listings.
eurooptic.com (add your own www.)

Maybe.
Bet it won't be a month.
Something to think about with eBay - they are very antigun. They have a record of sales, and have names and addresses for buyers and sellers. Would you really want to assume that they would not report potentially illegal export sales?

Ya right...

I will give it no more than a month and there will be another thread just like this one.

And just where is the problem ?
A discussion forum is made out of threads and like any other forum a gun forum has a limited (as opposed to limitless) quantity of related subjects and as soon as all of them are discussed then that forum is supposed to be dead, right ?
I mean, when someone will come up with a "new" thread there always will be someone saying: this has been discussed before, why don't you use the search feature and shut him down.
My solution is very simple, if you don't like the thread or you think it has been discussed too many times before and you are sick of it just ignore it.
Related to this thread, let's not forget that laws and regulations are changing all the time, so something that was current 1 month ago when discussed on another thread might have changed by now.

There occasionally are changes. For example, scope mounting hardware can now be exported without a Commerce Dept. permit, as long as the value is under US$100 wholesale. It wasn't that long ago that you had trouble getting 6-48 screws out of the US, let alone bases or rings.

Rifle scopes wont be "legally" shipped out of the United States without the proper paperwork anytime soon, so keep dreaming. When that does change I am sure everyone here will hear about it. But until that does happen, go through the hoops legally, get your scope and come back and tell us all about it.

I will repeat myself for the guys who don't want to jump through the hoops and take their chances. I know of two people who have lost their scopes and money by not doing it the right way. One of them had their money returned by VISA, the other never got anything back. It is your money and do what you like with it, but quit wasting the mods time by posting about it here. :slap:

Out of the 8-10 scopes/red dot sights I have bought on ebay 100% of them have been shipped from China. Just ask the vendor if the scope will be shipped from the US or China.

Your not going to get a 'real' scope from China but they all work good for me. And the price can't be beat.
