Single port or Dual port Action

My long term plan is to have 2 rifles being sisters. Same action, stock and everything. I will have one for short range. Who knows if I will have others. But don't want to many as its better to know one system to master it

I have two Tikkas in the same calibre and they should be close enough not to have to worry if a case had its previous trip through the other one. Still contemplating shifting one to a different calibre next barrel change, though.

I also have two Lee Enfields, and track which brass belongs to each more religiously, since chamber dimensions were more of a suggestion back then.

Back to topic, I can see it being maybe a bit faster to have bolt and port on opposite sides if the rifle is well supported and you're ambidextrous enough to pull the bolt back with one hand and stay there ready to work it forward as you change cartridges with the other, but I don't think we're trying to maintain such a rate of fire to need that. Less of an issue with a bolt that stays where you left it, more of an issue with a semi or a Renegade where one hand holds it back against the spring as the other does a mag change, but there you don't care about the port itself so much so long as nothing flying out of it clips your nose.
 
I’ve only seen one used and the shooter was doing a team event with a spotter and forcing the fired shell out the right by feeding in a new cartridge from the left in one motion. And it was more of a getting on target quickly before conditions changed on the spotter with a rapid fire scenario, not while waiting your turn against other shooters. If that makes sense.

I think he called it his “race gun”.
 
One of the fellas that comes up to.our Fclsss shoots uses a dual port action he is down at the SW Nationals right now.
The advantage of course is easier loading off the left side for a right handed shooter .

You know Josh this is my first SALVAGE 🤣 and it’s a GOODER it’s Factory stock and it’s shoots pretty good ! Action functions Excellent - trigger is pretty good at 7-8 oz ! I would like it lighter . RJ
