Outstanding!I relined my Stevens 044 1/2 to 22. These are amazing rifles. Too bad they are so rare. I casehardened the action, blued the barrel and added a few coats of oil to the stock to protect it. I has the original tang sight. I think this will make a great 22 BPCR silhouette rifle.

Nope just a 22 Long RifleDumb question but is it a 22 savage?
Beautiful whatever it is.
I saw the 22 70 on barrel and thought maybe 22 cal 70 grain bullet haha 22savageNope just a 22 Long Rifle
Cool but that is the serial number. They made a bit over 5000 44 1/2 and 044 1/2 actions so this is mid point in the serial numbers.I saw the 22 70 on barrel and thought maybe 22 cal 70 grain bullet haha 22savage
Actually it is the other way around. The 44 is the weaker action. Harry Pope designed the 44 1/2 to create an action that can hold up to smokeless power cartridges. The 044 1/2 has a smaller barrel shank and thiner action than the 44 1/2 and was designed for smaller cartridges like 22, 25 and some 32 cartridges.I have 44 1/2 Stevens in .32 Ideal. Fun little gun. I have original and Bertram brass for it.
I understand it to be a weaker action than the Stevens 44. I find the ctg. to be fairly mild to shoot.
Yeah, this! ^^^Actually it is the other way around. The 44 is the weaker action. Harry Pope designed the 44 1/2 to create an action that can hold up to smokeless power cartridges. Spend a bit more time and get those screw slots lined straight up and down...
Now, that's old school.Spend a bit more time and get those screw slots lined straight up and down...
I thought about doing the screws in the buttplate but it is original and didn’t want to mess with it in case I cracked it. The rest of the screws are lined up.Spend a bit more time and get those screw slots lined straight up and down...
