Rimfire Snapcaps

I've had some of the Tipton Reds lose the whole rim at once, and get stuck in the chamber. Had to poke 'em out with a cleaning rod. Luckily, I take one to the range to clean anyway. Last of the Reds are gone now. That's why I switched to Pachs.

Many modern .22 rimfires don't require snap caps and a fired .22 LR works fine for a snap cap... and is cheap and plentiful.

Glad to see a number of options are available. I grabbed some off Amazon (tipfun is the brand, they're silver casing w rubber base and a blue "bullet" at the top) and they worked well cycling easily through the 457 Varmint w the stock polymer magazine. Only issue is the rubber base did tear a bit from the pin striking it - small tear but expected I guess. My buddy was concerned about using it again and the small tear being in the spot the pin hits again, but there's 12 rounds in the set (and a dozen spare rubber bases - just pop out the old one pop in a new one), and there's a whole lot of untouched rubber around the rim still so I'm not too concerned. But will look into some of those other options when needed. Thanks to the contributors to this thread sharing their knowledge and tricks/tips to us new shooters.

Wondering what are the recommended snapcaps for a 22LR?

I've seen the Azoom snapcaps at Cabela's, which seem good for center fires (with the rubber core). However I'm curious how well the rimfire ones would work, since wouldn't they get dented with each dryfire?
I use the tipton red plastic snap caps, they stand up very well and feed from a mag good to. I tried the Lyman snap caps and they fell apart after 1-2 hits.

Cobra drywall anchors from rona work great in my CZ457 mtr (feed from magazine). They are ok in my winchester 61 and less good in my ithica model 72 saddle gun (lever action).

Which Cobra anchors were you able to make work? How many can you load in the magazine and still have it function correctly??

They have a slightly thinner rim than the old style hillman you can't get anymore.

Cobra works great in the CZ 457. I'll be saving the old hillman for other guns that are fussy.

I emailed hillman => no reply of coarse haha

They're a dummy round shaped as you would expect.

edit: They should feed from a magazine just fine, but they won't cycle through round after round. The rubber flexes enough that I can't get them to eject normally every time. Often the rim just flexes when the back hits the ejector and it doesn't get ejected, which means I've got to reach in there to get it out when my session is over.
